Pros: Still as chilling today as it was 20 years ago.
Cons: Don't read it before you have major surgery!
First of all, anything by Robin Cook is worth reading. His characters are believable, many having thoughts, issues or fears you can easily relate to. You frequently find yourself making facial expressions and nodding your head in response (making those around you question your touch on reality, lol). His plots are realistic, ones that make you interested in seeing the outcome and that provoke intelligent questions - which, satisfyingly, are always answered. In addition, he has a talent for giving "the bad guy(s)" (which may or may not be human) some of the most horrible and feared traits of any living things we've ever known - with climaxes that keep you turning the page, oblivious to having forgone sleep to get to the end. Excellence in written form. As for Coma, I was dumb enough to read this right before having open Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and it was just a bit unsettling, knowing I was undergoing general endotracheal anesthesia and might not wake up... Big mistake, lol. ...
