Not much of a collector's item...

This album was released twice here in the Philipppines. Though it highlights Dion's hits such as "The Prayer", "All By Myself" and "Tell Him", the more commercially successful singles are nowhere to be found in this release. It is a good thing that ...the album focuses on the rare tracks that are recorded in Japanese, French and Spanish. It seems like this is the only means to keep Dion's loyal fans waiting for her hiatus to end. On the lighter side, listeners can not miss her enthralling performances of "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" which is a Celine Dion standard, and "The Power of the Dream", a ong performed in the Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia back in 1996. Honestly, the album lacks the much needed pizzazz that helped Dion's records gain worldwide attention. Remember how soulful "Immortality" and unfathomed "My Heart Will Go On" are? It's quite sad to say that The Collector's Series Volume 1 is not much of a collector's item after all. I, myself, had high hopes for this album. Tsk! Tsk! Read more Less

    You are narrow minded

You have no taste of culture. I loved the CD. There is a variety of music and languages that only educated people will enjoy. Might I add that Spanish IS one of the love languages and is a very beautiful language.

The title of The Collector's Series, Vol. 1 makes the compilation seem as if it's filled with Celine Dion rarities, but that's not entirely true. There are some oddities here, such as "The Power of the Dream" from the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics, but the album is really a way to fill gaps left by Dion's hits collection, All the Way: A Decade of Song -- the many duets, French and Spanish songs, and previously unheard in the U.S. tracks are here to pad out the running time. As such, it's a real hodgepodge, with singles like "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" and "Falling Into You" overshadowing the rest of the album. Perhaps casual fans will want this as a way of getting the glaring omissions from the hits collection, but it has too many inconsequential obscurities to make it easy listening for them. So, it does wind up being more for the collectors -- but even they will probably wonder why it couldn't be nothing but rarities, which would have served them better. A real mixed bag, ...then. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less
