Pro Reviews: Collapse of Modern Culture

  • All Music Guide

Similar to other releases on Mo' Wax, The Collapse of Modern Culture focuses on downtempo beat-symphonies with heavy inspiration from dub. The similarities end there, however, as Sherard Ingram's Detroit and electro inspirations make for a record that sounds closer to downtempo tech-house than DJ Shadow-type trip-hop. The album also unites three of Detroit's most respected producers -- Carl Craig, Moodymann's Kenny Dixon, Jr. and Anthony Shakir -- for several tracks, though Ingram is the real star.
