Colin McRae Rally 2.0 Game Boy Advance

Originally released for the PlayStation in 2000, with a follow up PC version in 2001, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 offers fans of the "The Flying Scotsman" an opportunity to take the action on the road with the handheld system. Developed for the GBA by Spellbound Interactive, the game lets players compete in 36 stages in six countries (Finland, Sweden, France, Australia, United Kingdom, and Kenya) in either rally or arcade mode. The former offers Championship, Single Rally, Single Stage, and Time Trial racing, while the latter provides Championship, Single Race, and Time Trial action.

In the main event, rally racing in Championship mode, players must finish in the top six (out of sixteen) in each rally to advance to the next one, as they progress through the six countries. Only Finland is initially available in Single Rally mode, and other countries must be unlocked in Championship mode. Arcade Championship racing is structured a bit differently, with the goal to earn points against three other drivers on three circuits of three laps each. In this mode, players must win in the Class B setup in order to open additional circuits in Class A.

Three levels of difficulty (novice, intermediate, and expert) restrict the stages that are available in Rally mode by affecting the number of days and stages in each rally. Novice and intermediate settings are initially available, though novices are limited to only Class B Championship racing and circuits. Expert difficulty in Rally mode is unlocked by finishing first in Championship racing at the intermediate level, while access in arcade mode requires winning both Class A and Class B Championships at the intermediate level.

Five cars are initially available, with more unlocked in intermediate and expert difficulty levels. Pre-race setups in Rally mode include automatic or manual transmission, gears, tires, braking power, steering and repair options, with pre-determined setups provided in arcade mode. Colin McRae's co-driver, Nicky Grist, provides a dozen verbal in-race track navigation commands, such as "don't cut" or "crest," to supplement the eight visual cornering symbols. ~ All Game Guide
