Pros: Easy set up, Roomy, Nice in nice weather
Cons: No way to tie open front doors, No way to close off mesh on top of tent to stay warm
Well I was totally excited about this tent. I took my wife out camping for the second time and bought all the doo-dads to go along with it to make it an enjoyable trip.
I am an avid outdoorsman and have encountered almost everything while camping but this was one that we will always remember.
It rained on the first 3 days and when I mean rain I am talking about torential downpours. Well thanks to the weathermen (light rain showers) and to the name "Weathermaster Elite" tagged with coleman's guarentee of keeping you dry I didn't pack what I should have and told my wife we would be fine. WRONG....................
...............
(Guys don't you hate when that happens)
It stayed dry for a few hours then water was pouring in. I think that the tent would hold up to normal conditions but ME and MY WIFE WHO IS STILL NOT SURE ABOUT THIS CAMPING THING are camping. Well after using all of our pots and pans I ran 28 miles to the closest town and bought a HUGE tarp to cover it. It worked!
Buy the tent, take a tarp just in case, it made it fun for us err...well... me (mother nature couldn't beat me) and even my wife wants to go camping again she said it was a trip that she will never forget.
so.....
1. Buy Tent
2. Buy XTRA BIG tarp
3. Have fun
Pros: Screen room, tent light
Cons: Locks on Tent Poles
We recently purchased this tent for our first camping trip. We sealed and weather proofed this tent and it stood up through 2 Severe Thunder Storms. There was no water in our tent and it was still standing! It is really easy to set up and take down. The tent and stakes fit in the bag nicely, but we could not fit the poles in the bag so we have to carry those separately. The only downfall were the locks for the poles. A few of them got stuck so we could not put them together. eventually we got it fixed.
Pros: Solo setup w/ practice/Hinged door is amazing/Next model will rock
Cons: 8D Battery a bit much/Seams wick moisture inside/Weak sewing
I loved the hinged door concept.
The 8 D battery light is bulky and a bit much in the LED age.
The height is sketchy and probably measured without the light attached.
The seams are weakly sewed and need some to be re-enforced or back stitched at the ends. Key trouble areas were where the poles attached by the front doors in both models we tried.
The entrance to the screened vestibule does not zip close on the bottom of the nylon and blowing sand, moisture etc. could easily get in.
Tent would not free stand without the stakes set up making solo setup difficult and limiting terrain choice.
Seems wicked water to inside pockets and we had to remove articles from pockets and set up towels. A seam sealer around pocket area may be warranted.
The tent needs a little attention to fix some easily remedied manufacture weaknesses, but overall I think it is a great design.
