Pros: None
Cons: Can't flush it down the toilet.
The bad thing about the coby dvd937 is that the company will not stand behind it, or even answer emails. If you don't buy it from a trusted retailer who will refund your money, stay away from all coby products.
Pros: So....
Cons: I'll never replace the few hours it sucked away from me...
This was the worst pile of junk I have ever received. It made my Christmas suck worse than Kwanzaa. First off, they are right in that it is fairly easy to assemble. A monkey with matchsticks would be more useful though. The manual offers no help other than a diagram written by Venn himself. So, I get the thing hooked up and the Rear speakers don't work. The other problem I ran into is that there is no Power button on the remote. Hmmm, seems like that is an essential function of any remote. I know what you're thinking. This idiot just doesn't know where the Power button is. Oh yeah, check out their site and you will see I am telling the truth. They have a "Standby" button and that's it. Ok, now even worse than these two items was the fact that YOU CAN NOT TURN THE VOLUME DOWN! THIS IS LIKE HAVING TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS ALL THE TIME! You can turn the volume down on the radio and the DVD player, but the speakers play at the same volume no matter what the setting when run from the output on your TV. Basically, you have two options, âAbsurdly Loudâ and Off. But remember, you have to walk your behind up to the thing to turn it off because the remote is missing a power button. If I hadn't got this thing for free, I would put a pipe bomb in it and return it to the store that sells them. (For the record, that was just a joke as thanks to the Patriot Act, my activity is probably being monitored at this exact moment). Seriously, if you are considering buying this/giving it as a gift, please hit yourself in the face with a meat mallet as that will be a more enjoyable experience or your money back. Also, I am looking into buying the domains CobySucks.com or CobyCrapFactory.com as my disdain for this 1 product knows no bounds. Oh, and by the way, to remove any doubt that it was my settings (which I ran through every possible configuration and troubleshooting step possible), please see this little nugget from the Coby Manual for this product "To fully realize 2-channel sound, a Stereo TV or AV receiver is necessary." AKA "Our product sucks, now please buy more products to make it work correctly." Do yourself a favor and buy the Pioneers Surround Sound kit from Wal-Mart for $120. The only thing it doesn't have is the DVD player which is a joke anyway.
Pros: Easy to re-package.
Cons: Everything not mentioned in the "pros" column.
Out of the box, this unit looked pretty nice, with sharp looking silver finish and a sleek design. Then I plugged it in.
For starters, this unit had two left and right channel audio input jacks for hooking in accessories, but no video input jack (the yellow one), so I had to use an A/B switch for the video to even get my DVR to play through the unit.
Once I finally got it hooked up, the rear channel speakers didn't work-only the front, center, and subwoofer worked. I tried hooking it up in several different configurations to no avail, it was as if the rear jacks in the unit were never hooked up at the factory! No sound at all. As I was trying to figure out the first problem I stumbled across another. In the setup menu, you have the option to disable your speakers one by one (front, rear, sub, center). I disabled all but the rear speakers for testing purposes, and low and behold, the sub continued to function despite the fact that I turned it off in the menu.
So I guess if I had a gun to my head and was being forced to say something good about this product, it would be that the subwoofer definitely works, whether you want it to or not.
If you want a cheap surround sound system that works, stay away from this one! You will be better off buying a $35 one at Wal-Mart's Day after Thanksgiving sale.
Pros: Nothing good
Cons: Horrible
This is the absolute worst electronic product that I have ever bought. The remote constantly sends the wrong signal to the system. I will press the root menu button the stop signal is sent, or if I press the next or previous chapter the setup menu comes up. More and more DVDs that I try and play with this system do not register and they work fine with my other DVD systems that I have. There are also lots of programming glitches that prevent proper use of the system. They were lucky that I had already passed the 90 day warranty. It is strange that all these problems started about 100 days into the use of the product. Customer Support just ignored my problems since I was past the warranty.
