The Classics IV were actually a quintet comprised of several top studio musicians: lead vocalist Dennis Yost, guitarist/songwriter James Cobb, guitarist Wally Eaton, bassist Joe Wilson, and drummer Kim Venable. Prior to joining together as a group, the five had played on recordings for Tommy Roe, Billy Joe Royal, and the Tams, all groups discovered by Bill Lowery.
