Pro Reviews: Classic Sinatra: His Greatest Performances 1953-1960
| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews A good single-disc compilation of his Capitol years, covering 1953 to the beginning of the 1960s. His Capitol output was so extensive that it's impossible for a 20-song anthology to give a comprehensive overview even of the highlights. Also, as this focuses on the albums he made with Capitol, some of his biggest hits of the time are omitted, such as "Learnin' the Blues," "Hey Jealous Lover," and "High Hopes." Still, a lot of the performances much of the public identifies with the singer are here, including "I Get a Kick out of You," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Witchcraft," "All the Way," "Come Fly With Me," "One for My Baby," "Young at Heart," and "I've Got You Under My Skin." - Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide |

This anthology is sufficient to reveal Sinatra the premier vocalist who can arrest a tune and master it like few can. I doubt any rock star would dare to jump into a Cole porter no:I get a kick out of you. Ok you think I am crazy? I have met many who can play opening lines of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata-how many would dare the third movement? Hardly any. I have done two versions of Irving Berlins 'Cheek to Cheek',as an amatuer crooner in UK ,I never dared a Cole Porter tune. Only discerning musicians know this. He wrote perplex cord arrangements for Sinatra and Sintra worked out the interpretation;it was an epoch in the making of a musical chapter in American musical History . Each track has been treated as a custom product few artists can only dream.
Tracks no:5,7,8,9,10 are Sinatra's pinnacle and enough for any one who wishes only one collection. all of them penned years before his time , recreated by him for pleasure to last far into future.. the tattered universal couduit of emotion,"I love you " is refreshed by Sinatra like no one else because he has integrity and purity to pour over the song. Give a love song to Engelbert and he will stuff it into jars of sugar and honey and Tom Jones will be wrestling with the tune to show off his Baritone potential . Sinatra's philosophy is simple and pragmatic:no messing around just get the job done and hs does it well cos he is the 'Boss' ..you know !!thats why they say he might not be everyones cup of tea but hardly any one can deny he is-"Voice of the century"
