Combining the stealth, tactics, and action popularized in both the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises, Splinter Cell introduces a new Tom Clancy series, featuring a single character instead of the teamoriented play found in Red Storm's successful squadbased shooter games. The title alludes to the secret organization players become a part of an offshoot of the NSA called Third Echelon, whose members rigorously serve to protect America using whatever means necessary. Players embark on a series of nine missions to eliminate potential security threats, by covertly infiltrating and destroying the data and communications critical to cyberterrorist operations.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 continues the squadbased shooter series with 14 new singleplayer missions, nine multiplayer maps, and over 30 weapons. Instead of porting the PC's Raven Shield, the developers at Ubi Soft Montreal opted instead to create an original release designed specifically for the console. Rainbow Six 3 for Xbox does away with the planning phase found in the PC version of the game. Players control Team RAINBOW's Ding Chavez throughout the entire solo campaign, commanding fellow agents Louis Loiselle, Dieter Weber, and Eddie Price. Players will issue orders to teammates (such as tossing a flash grenade into a room after opening a door) using the directional pad.
