So little is known of the performers on this CD (most of whom are unidentified) that it is believed the featured vocalists Kid Cole, Bob Coleman, and Walter Coleman (who double on guitars) might all be the same person He is thought to have been based in Cincinnati (particularly since one of the groups that he recorded with is called the Cincinnati Jug Band), although the music (from 1928-1929 and 1936) was actually recorded in Chicago and Richmond, IN. The 15 selections are the complete output of this mysterious figure, of whom nothing is known. Coleman is heard with the jug band (which includes harmonica, two jugs, washboard, and a second guitarist) on four numbers, playing unaccompanied on "Sing Song Blues," joined by a second guitarist, and backed by the equally mysterious pianist Jesse James. The music is fine for the period and is recommended to blues and jug band collectors.
