Director Ray McKinnon effortlessly guides his film through a series of ups and downs for Joe and Chrystal, creating a satisfying portrait of a man struggling to recapture what he once had. McKinnon also appears in the movie, in an impressive cast which also includes a turn from famed American character actor Harry Dean Stanton.

    I Highly Recommend This Wonderful Film!!!

    Pros: Beautiful story of heartache & humanity! Amazing...

    Being an Appalachian-gal, I was convinced this film was set here in eastern Kentucky, until the mention of the Ozarks about 3/4-way through... Billy Bob Thornton, as always, was amazing, and the title character, Chrystal, played flawlessly by actress... Lisa Blount, affords an even more amazing performance. The rest of the cast is terrific as well. If you are familiar with the way of life of the American "hillbilly," you will enjoy this film regardless of whether you fully understand the complex, painful, beautiful message of love, heartbreak and humanity encapsulated within the story... However, I would highly recommend this picture to EVERYONE. (The original "folk" soundtrack is equally fantastic, as is the setting, scenery, and script-in-general). A truly, uniquely southeastern-American story... Simply beautiful!!! I just cannot compliment this movie enough!!! It's a MUST-SEE... Read more Less
