| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews Though the band has since released four more albums on Atlantic Records, this doubledisc set was the original, definitive Rush anthology, spanning the band's entire 15year, 16album relationship with Mercury Records. In fact, this set is virtually perfect, clearly illustrating the Canadian power trio's evolution from Cream/Zeppelin enthusiasts into a groundbreaking, progressive hardrock unit. Acclaimed classics like "Finding My Way," "Fly by Night," "A Passage to Bangkok," "Closer to the Heart," "The Spirit of Radio," and "Tom Sawyer" are interspersed with lesswellknown, but equally vital tracks like "Bastille Day," "La Villa Strangiato," "Limelight," "Subdivisions," and "Red Sector A" to paint a literal moving picture (pun intended) of the band's career. As a testament to its excellence, Mercury was incapable of improving upon this package when releasing the nearly identical Retrospective six years later on two separate CDs. Pros: This is a great 2 CD retrospective of the Mercury years
Cons: It isn't really a career spanning anthology these days
This 2 CD retrospective is a great compilation of Rush's years with Mercury Records. It has lots of classics from that era like "Working Man", "Fly By Night", "Closer To The Heart", "Tom Sawyer", "Subdivisions";, and a whole lot more. And it also contains live material as well. And, it's also in chronological order, so you can see how Rush evloved throughout their years on Mercury. Also, there's even one song from their current label, Atlantic ("Show Don't Tell.") However, since this compilation was released in 1990, there is no coverage from any of the CDs released after that, so it isn't really a career-spanning anthology these days. Oh well, you can always make your own personal "Disk 3" from the Atlantic years from MP3s like I did.
