Chris Bathgate grew up in Pecatonica, IL, and started playing music when he was 16. He put in a couple years with a heavy metal band before going solo in 2001, when he recorded and released his debut fulllength, I Am Here, and an EP, Dead Eyed Stranger. He moved to Ann Arbor soon after that in order to attend the University of Michigan.
