This is the story of
Davy, a blue chameleon who had the misfortune of encountering a white rabbit during a leisurely stroll through the jungle. It seems this rabbit was late for an appointment, so it ran full speed toward a mysterious pot filled with colors of the rainbow.
After jumping straight into the pot without a word, the rabbit suddenly disappeared from view. Where did he go? Davy possessed many traits, but being cautious wasn't one of them. So the chameleon crawled into the pot to see precisely where the rabbit went. When he emerged from the other side, Davy found himself all alone in a strange world...
Chameleon Twist is a 3D platform game that has players guiding Davy or one of his three fellow chameleons (Linda, Fred and Jack) through the following six areas: ~Jungle Land, ~Ant Land, ~Bomb Land, ~Desert Castle, ~Kids Land and ~Ghost Castle.
The setting isn't the only thing that has changed; Davy has transformed into an upright creature with a round head and a pair of white gloves His tongue has also been altered -- its length is now the equivalent of 160 tongues Players must learn to control this tongue to defeat enemies and progress through the areas.
The tongue can be used as either a weapon, a means to cross wide gaps or as a way to leap onto platforms. Once the tongue is unrolled, it can be guided in any direction using the analog stick. In order for players to familiarize themselves with the control, a Training mode is available with five different rooms.
Each room is designed to let you practice a specific ability, from the Machine Gun Attack to the Tongue High Jump. Players can also challenge a friend to see who can complete these rooms in the fastest time. Remember, a good chameleon never gets licked
The one-player game involves progressing through the predominately indoor environments while collecting hearts to replenish health. Each stage also has over 20 crowns to find, and if you manage to find enough crowns in each land, a secret will be revealed
As with most games in the genre, stages end in a confrontation with a boss character; defeat the boss and you'll be able to advance to the next land. In addition to the one-player game, Chameleon Twist offers a Battle mode, allowing two to four players the chance to take part in a Battle Royal or Time Trial event.
Battle Royal involves trying to be the last chameleon left standing on a suspended platform, while Time Trial challenges you to stay on the platform the longest. In the latter event, the player who has fallen off the fewest times at the end of the time limit is considered the winner.
While Chameleon Twist is incompatible with the ~Controller Pak accessory, the game includes four built-in data files to record game progress. It also supports the ~Rumble Pak to provide vibration feedback during play. Game options include four difficulty settings for multi-player games, adjustable battle lengths and four different stages for both the Battle Royal and Time Trial modes. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide
