If there is a style that could be named as the one cultivated by Cave In, that would roughly be alternative metal. Still, and although this Massachusetts State band prefers flowing around marks that could easily be featured on any trash metal compilation, their melodic and rhythmic sense seems to be flowing towards compound style options. Cave In's conceptions could also be connected with the hardest of alternative rock selections, or simply with the roughest kinds of rock roll.

Beginning with the band in 1995, in Methuen, MA, Stephen Brodsky (guitar) and Jay Frechette (the band's former vocalist) rehearsed with a series of crews before deciding to assemble their own squad. The later additions of Justin Matthes (bass), Adam McGrath (guitar), and John-Robert Conners (drums) completed Cave In's set at the time. It was still in 1995 that the band recorded their first singles with the help of production expert Brian McTernan. One year later, Aaron Turner, from Hydra Head Records, saw the band playing and immediately showed his interest in having Cave In on his catalog. It was after the crew's first release at Hydra that Matthes departed and was substituted by Andy Kyte. During the following year, the group did their first tour, choosing to perform throughout the Florida area. It was then that Frechette left and that Dave Scrod placed him as head vocalist. However, he resisted not more than a year, and Caleb Scofield, formerly of Strike 3, got in to fill his position. Beyond Hypotermia finally showed up as their first album in late 1998. Until Your Heart Stops, the Methuen team's second full-length, hit the record stores in 1998, before the band went on the road again, doing a series of live shows throughout the U.S. and in Canada, along with Canada's Ire. Dedicating the following year to the writing of songs that would later appear both on tribute compilations for the Cure and Bad Brains, Cave In also prepared what would turn out as their third album. Delivering Jupiter in 2000, the unit confirmed their composition substances by broadening their style choices, before they signed with RCA in 2001. The epic Tides of Tomorrow EP premiered in 2002, however the band's rich rock sound was fully magnetic on the 2003 full-length Antenna.
