    Pros: Casper's Lullaby

Cons: On par for the rest

This score is right on par for Horner. Just about what you would expect from him. It's all good, but nothing spectacular....until....o
ne stunningly powerful theme. I was channel flipping one day when I first saw this movie. I started watching and... may jaw dropped when I heard this theme. It is called Casper's Lullaby. It is a simple solo piano melody. It is haunting, tender, heartwarming and sad, all at the same time. It also has the sweetness of a lullaby. This theme is one of the most underrated and undiscovered themes in movies. It is stunning in the most surreal way! Read more Less

Not content with ripping off himself, James Horner borrows wholesale from Danny Elfman for 1995's Casper, a goofy comedic fantasy score that eschews thrills and chills in favor of the composer's usual diabetesinducing schmaltz. Granted, Casper is supposed to be cute and cuddlyhe's the Friendly Ghost, after allbut Horner never musters even a hint of action or suspense, instead favoring a calculated whimsy that evokes Elfman's scores for Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, albeit with none of the otherworldly beauty and serious weirdness that makes Elfman's efforts so compelling. MCA's soundtrack also includes Little Richard's "Casper the Friendly Ghost"or, as it should be titled, "How the Mighty Have Fallen."
