How can a good actor I usually enjoy and a very beautiful actress I usually enjoy looking at make something so bad and hard to watch? If I pay to rent a movie, I usually force myself to watch it; but I couldn't get past the opening half hour of this one. Cage should never have left Las Vegas.

I like nic cage and cruz. But this film was a bore. The only saving grace of this whole film would have to be the pretty country side they showed though out he film. the movie was only about a little under or over two hours but it seem to drag on forever! although not as bad as the will smith movie Ali that movie sucked and i fell a sleep. But back to CCM I encourge you to see this film ONLY IF YOU REALLY LOVE NIC OR CRUZ AND WOULD SEE THEM IN ANYTHING! or its really a waste of time and film. The film makers suceeded in turning a war and romance movie into a real bore fest.

No movie could do full justice to the book upon which this film is based, but this movie is a touching and mature treatment of decent people, trying to maintain personal integrity despite the dehumanization of war. Nicholas Cage and Penelope Cruz are fine in the leads, and the supporting cast is excellent. Some reviews have criticized the sometimes slow pace and, paradoxically, the beautiful Greek Island scenery which is the background for the plot. However, for me these aspects were positives, not negatives. This movie is far superior to last summer's other major war movie, Pearl Harbor. While not the greatest anti-war movie of all time by any means, it is certainly a worthy, if less intense entry into the genre of other great films with similar messages, such as Paths of Glory, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Thin Red Line.

A Good Movie But Not For Everyone

It's a heart touching movie that will make you watch again. With a solid historical background, a fantasy like filming location, a romantic script and a pair of charming stars; it's truly a good recipe for a perfect movie. Well nothing is perfect in this world and this movie is no exception. The first impression of this little Greek Island has been laid out very nicely by the director. The setting of Cage and Cruz's love is pretty well done too. You can see the passion inside each other's eyes while they keep hiding it. It's not until Cruz's dancing sence which makes Cage to fall for her. Then it's the explosion of the Turkish water mine that Cruz fianlly pours her long denial love toward Cage. However, things becomes blurry here. It would have been much better if there are more substantial involving between these two lovers. Instead, all has been summarized by a passionate love making at the beautiful countryside. Of course, the Germans crashed on to the shore after that. I can see the film making crews has really brought in lots of weapons, landing crafts and air planes for this short but yet dramatic war scene. Still, I think it can be handled with more details and glories about these Italian heroes. Things kind of back on track from here with a happy ending after all. It's definitely a good movie but can be better! However, the real uniqueness of this movie is its ability to reflects the passion, power and confusion of love and also the chaotic consequences surrounding it. It really takes someone who has a passionate heart and understand what love truly is to correctly interpretate this movie. Otherwise, it will be just a boring and unrealistic tourism advertisement!

A human movie, finally...

Showing the real people trapped in the mis-fortunes of war. Good acting, stunning landscapes filmed on real book location, finally showing people other than Americans.
I was somewhat disappointed by the departures from the book, but a whole book, although more interesting, could not be filmed.
A great Valentine treat for real people, and for those who forgot real people.

This movie is OUTRAGEOUSLY good. A real love story, one we can believe. Moving is not strong enough a word! This commands an emotional depth I've not experienced while watching a film in years! The cinematography is stunning, the setting is nearly a dreamscape! Bravo to cast and director! I am a die hard N. Cage fan, and truly, I seemed to forget I was watching Cage, and began to see "Captain Antonio Corelli." P. Cruz was more than beliveable, I could almost feel "Pelagia's" confusion and hurt, her growing love. If you want a film, a story, and actors to grab your heart, to make you feel, this is it. One I am glad I bought before I rented. Captain Corelli's Mandolin is a movie I will watch again and again and again and . . .

A good cast, a good director, and good cinematography. So how could this film go so terribly wrong? There were 15 people in the theater when the film started, but only 9 were left by the end. This was easily the most boring film I have seen in several year. I would've given this zero stars if they would have a zero rating. I begrudgingly gave it 1, because that's better than this snoozefest deserves.

The idyllic beauty of Greece's Mediterranean coast has been invaded by Italy, bringing legions of soldiers to the once tranquil island of Cephallonia. Captain Antonio Corelli (Nicolas Cage), an officer with an irrepressibly jovial personality and passion for the mandolin, initially alienates a number of the villagers, including Pelagia (Penelope Cruz). The daughter of the village doctor, Pelagia is an educated and strong-willed woman, and while at first offended by the Italian soldier's behavior, she slowly warms to his certain charms as they are forced to share her father's home. The movie title has a good ring to it. But I feel nicolas Cages accent wasent neccesary and chessy for this kind of movie. Now the romance dosent hit nothing and dosent touch the Heart. Penolope Cruz cant find that heart string to pull on all of us. The Action might be worth while to its story and plot. But Captain is just a non romantic war film. And the Story dosent seem to fit in. But the Dirictor takes you threw a beautiful Landscape that makes my opinon of the movie more better.
