    Pros: Reliable

Cons: Only a firewire cable included as accessory

I got mine just yesterday. I ordered one since I wanted a new high-quality video capture device with a Firewire interface. Previously, I owned a Pinnacle Moviebox DV. The Pinnacle was doing a good job until, for some reason, its Firewire interface st...opped working. With the Pinnacle, I also had the problem that I could not get any color if the input video signal was through the S-Video connector. Just a week ago, I bought the ADS Pyro A/V Link. I was not happy at all with it as it dropped frames when using the Pinnacle Studio software. When using its own supplied software from Ulead, it captured the frames without problems, but then, the colors captured were flashing (oscillating between too much color and too little color) when capturing video from a VHS tape that had strong colors. Also, with the ADS, It did not display any proper video image when I used my Casio pocket TV as a monitor, and the S-Video connection also produced a b&w video. The ADS went back to the shop. With the Canopus ADVC-110, I have none of the problems mentioned! Since it is supplied with only a firewire cable, and nothing else, I was happy that it works very well with the Pinnacle Studio software. Using the S-Video input produces colors just like using the composite video input. My Casio pocket TV displays perfectly the video to be monitored. Great features in the ADVC-110: There are some DIP-switches under the case for configuring it. One of the switches is for disabling Macromedia. Another switch is for audio locking so the audio is perfectly synchronised with the video. One more thing: This unit does not need to be used with an external power adapter, although it has an optional input for it. If you connect the firewire cable to a desktop computer, it should provide enough power to the unit. If connecting to a notebook pc, it is likely that one should then use an external 5VDC power adapter. Read more Less
