SD 630 - Another solid one from Canon

By Dave  Jun 29, 2006 | 79 out of 83 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

Pros: screen, thin, fast, simple, great pictures, screen (needs repeating)

Cons: cost, no image stabilization, large screen means large scratch factor

This is my third Elph. I started with the 230, then the 400 and now the 630. I also tried a panasonic/lumix fx7 in between the 400 and the 630. The LCD screen and overall size of the 630 make it a great sized camera. The large LCD is fantastic when ...you are reviewing images. DIGIC is more than just marketing. I notice the the overall quality of a picture take on auto on the 630 vs. the fx7 is better. Now bear in mind the fx7 was 5 megapixels and the 630 is 6 so they should be better but beyond just megapixels the DIGIC processing in the ELPH is better at exposure and shutter speed settings. I do miss the IOS stablilzation of the fx7 however. I could have moved up to the next model and gotten the image stabilizatio but i went swith the big screen and so far I am very pleased. I just need to work on solid camera holding during shots now. Overall I think this is a great camera Read more Less

Everything you need for taking great pictures!

Pros: Big LCD screen, great image quality, color modes, easy to charge battery

Cons: Loud shutter/focus, poor battery life, no battery meter

I just purchased this camera three days ago, and i'm allready getting used to it. The #1 thing i love about it is the big screen, and the fact that it's a Canon. I've had a bad experince with a Sony cybershot before. The buttons are kinda... cluttered but i am used to it. The camera takes really great images with no red eyes. I would highly recommend it. Pros: LCD Screen, portability, quality, ease

    Cons: Screen scratches easily

I got this camera for my birthday and I love it! I like how when viewing pics no matter which way you turn the camera it shows as right side up. It auto corrects. I just got one of those protective plastic pieces for the screen and it has worked beau...tifully. Read more Less

    Awesome camera

By jOn  Nov 28, 2006 | 9 out of 10 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

Pros: Carries some of the best features you can ask for. 3 inch screen is amazing. Very fast at taking pictures. Very fast start up time.

Cons: Manuel isn't really helpful on it's features, The output location for USB and AUX.

I bought at 2 gig card for it that is an Ultra II and it saves the pictures at very fast times. It has some features of being a professional grade camera. Very light. Nice looks. Comes with tons of manuels that are in different languages. It record v...ideos that are great quality and it allows you to Zoom even while recording a video. Most dont... they usually have you stop the video and zoom and record again. This is easier!!!!!!!!!!!! I just bought the camera this weekend so I have a lot of test shots that I have to do to get use to it. The battery charges quickly but would advise to buy another one just in case. AND i got it at best buy. it was marked more than staples but I talked to the manager in the camera department and had him overright the cost and price match...... i almost got this camera for 168.. but i was too honest and told him the correct cost.. darnit.. -----Jonathan Martinez Read more Less

    Price point well worth it

By Danielle  Aug 14, 2006 | 8 out of 10 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

Pros: screen, user-friendly, functional, good battery life

Cons: manual needs to be simplified to key features

I am not technically savvy at all-so, when buying a new digital camera I was extremely sensitive to usability. My boyfriend recommended the SD630 and I could not have been more pleased with my purchase. Yes, the price may seem steep, but this high-qu...ality camera is worth it. I have even dropped it 2X and it miraculously survived. The features I like best are: -screen is 3 inches. and when showing your friends pictures, the picture will automatically pivot when you turn the camera. -easy transition with top button from camera mode-video mode-and review -minimizes glare enviroments -many different manipulations for pictures availabe -clear, crisp picture quality Every time one of my friends uses my camera....they have bought it the next day. Pros: day picture, shape

    Cons: night picture

I like everything about the camera, accept one thing. it doesn't take very good night pictures. The flash light is way to bright no matter what setting I put.

    FABULOUS PURCHASE!

By Mariah  Dec 14, 2006 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

Pros: huge LCD, very easy to use......I can adjust settings for specific photos as I want, but it is simple enough to be used as a "point and shoot" for my 75 year-old grandmother, too! It takes photos, sound bites, and video clips! It's part of the ELPH series, so it travels like a dream without the bulk, weight, and extra room needed for some of the other digital cameras out there. Battery charger is small and compact, no cords and you don't need to hook up the whole camera, TAKES AWESOME PHOTOGRAPHS,

Cons: no clear plastic cover for LCD screen so its easily scratched (just gotta be careful with it!), low battery life if you are taking video clips

You can find it online for about $200 right now, which is a great price and well worth it. I bought mine when it was $300 and after I dropped and broke the first one, I bought another immediately. It is a fantastic purchase for a novice or someone wi...th experience, a traveler, or anyone who wants to carry their camera around with them...it fits perfect in a purse, pocket, or bag. The buttons to go back and view pictures are a little small, but for taking photos, its easy for the young or old. As I'm sure you've read other reviews, the LCD is HUGE and great quality. I just wish it had a clear protective cover to reduce scratching. I don't miss the view-finder what-so-ever! Seriously, this is a WONDERFUL camera, a GREAT buy! Read more Less

By Garrett  Nov 24, 2006 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

    Pros: Big Display on Back

    Cons: Mega Small

I bought the camera on line based on reviews. Out of the box my first thoughts were, "I need my hands to shrink to the size of a 6 year old in order to hold this camera..." With some trial and error, I now love it and am glad it's not ...my old 35mm SLR from the 80's that weighs 10 pounds and took up the entire back seat of my car. Also, importing pictures to the computer is super easy. Even without reading the 30 different user guides in English and Spanish, I was able to figure this out and was sending e-mail with the pictures in under 5 minutes. Great value, for the price, too. By Rachel G  Nov 28, 2006 | 4 out of 5 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

Pros: It's looks awesome and takes great photos...

    Cons: Zoom sucks...

This is a great camera. I've dropped it a few times and it still works fine... The zoom sucks, but I only use it for taking pictures at parties and family, so it's perfect. It's easy to use and a great deal. I actually paid $350+ for min...e, so your getting a great deal. I should have waited another 4 months before buying mine. Read more Less

    Great Point & Shoot

By Chris L  Dec 10, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Canon PowerShot SD630 review helpful

Pros: Small body, HUGE screen, very easy to use

Cons: Night photos can be tricky

This is my third digital camera. My previous camera was an early model Nikon Coolpix 995. I've had my eye on the smaller point & shoot digital cameras for a while, but was satisfied with my Nikon. When I finally decided to buy a smaller digital ...camera, I shopped the Nikon, Canon, Sony and Casio models. All the features were comparable, but when I saw the screen on the SD630, that was the deciding factor. The screen literally consumes the entire back panel of the camera. Now I've been taking pictures with it for three full months now, and I love it. After becoming familiar with the menus, this camera very easy to use. When its in full auto mode, DIGIC takes fantastic pictures. It took me a while to get used to taking pictures in a party setting with this camera. When you press the button it takes the picture right away, there is almost no delay. This is great in most settings, but it means that the pre-flash light is on for very little time. If you're at a party, and people aren't looking at the camera when the pre-flash light comes on, then the people have red-eye. This is a pretty tricky photo situation for any camera (natural light photos are ALWAYS best IMHO). I do have to say that even with the red-eye photos, I'd rather have the camera take the picture NOW than wait for the camera and lose the candid shot. Red-eye can be Photoshopped out. Here's the truly great part. Now that I have a camera that fits in my pocket and takes great photos, I'm taking more pictures because I always have my camera WITH me. How many times have you left your camera at home, only to think later "this would be a great photo." I got mine for $350 delivered on eBay. If I lost it, I'd replace it the same week. I love this camera. I can't comment on support because I haven't had to contact them. My camera works flawlessly. Read more Less
