    Worth every penny!

By HuskerFan  Jun 20, 2006 | 92 out of 94 found this Canon PowerShot SD600 review helpful

Pros: Perfect pictures, ease of use, so rich in colors.

    Cons: None yet!

I bought this camera for my wife. She wasn't sure she could give up her SLR for a digital camera. Was she surprised. She can take over 600 shots on a 1GB card. She would go through rolls and rolls of film a month with her SLR. Now she can take hu...ndreds of photos, weed through the good ones, delete the bad ones and now print 1/5 of the photos. What a $aving$. The camera is easy to operate, has great resolution with 6 MP and we could not have asked for more. Great battery life and the camera can take about 7 minutes of moving pictures on a 1GB card. Worth every penny. Read more Less

    Love it!

Pros: Size, Weight, Features, Video,LCD Screen...

    Cons: Flash in certain situations

I absolutely love this camera. I just spent two weeks in Puerto Rico and have come back with wonderful pictures and videos. The camera is small enough to fit in my small purse. A stylish leather case can be purchased in order to carrry it as well, wh...ich is nice (I purchased it too). The camera comes with lots of different features and is easy to use. It has a very nice LCD Screen, and also captures sound perfectly when recording videos. I've had a few issues with the flash where in certain situations it hasn't provided as much light as desired, but not a big deal. It's a great buy! Read more Less

    Pros: display resolution, form factor

    Cons: wimpy flash

Wonderful portable camera. Makes a great companion to my Canon 20D. Very easy to use. Takes great pictures and display resolution is fantastic. Flash is very weak and can make inside dark photos challenging. Really nice form factor makes it easy to ...carry. Read more Less

Pros: I took fantastic photos for 3 weeks

Cons: The lens got stuck open and Canon won't cover it.

I bought this camera three weeks ago before I went abroad. One day the lens wouldn't go back in and I get an error on screen that says "Lens Error. Restart camera." However the camera won't restart no matter what. Not even a month l...ater. Canon says they won't cover it. I got royally screwed. Read more Less

    Excellent Camera

By Shades of Blue  Jun 18, 2006 | 15 out of 15 found this Canon PowerShot SD600 review helpful

Pros: Small, light and easy to carry around. Huge LCD for the size of the camera. Fast shot-to-shot. Plenty of features for basic and intermediate users.

Cons: Battery door does feel a little flimsy when opening.

I replaced a Kodak camera with this. I'm blown away by the difference. I got the 1 gig memory and have tons of room for pics and having fun with the video feature. Best camera of this type in this price range.

    Outstanding for point-and-shoot

By First L  Aug 29, 2006 | 13 out of 13 found this Canon PowerShot SD600 review helpful

    Pros: Pocket sized, large LCD

Cons: Weak flash in low light levels, flimsy battery/port covers

I received this camera as a gift from my boyfriend - I love my boyfriend! about two months ago. It is my second digital camera. My first was Olympus C-4000 Zoom. The SD600 is very small, yet it feels solid and sturdy in the hand, not like some other... cameras with frames that feel plastic. I love the way I can put the camera in my purse. I recently bought a camera case, but I used to store the camera in a soft cotton drawstring case meant for my sunglasses. Either way, I am not too concerned about scratches on the camera because it seems well-built. The menus are mostly well-organized. It took me about a few days to master the basics in menus, enough to fiddle around with. Canon provides a photo editing software with the camera (which I have not used, but may be good to have if you need it). I like to print my photos, so the quality of the camera is very important to me. I find that the SD600 delivers amazing results, with good color balance and saturation. It outperforms my older camera in low-light situations, especially in those requiring very long exposure times with the flash off. The SD600 seems to have a weak flash in low-light situations. But you can't ask for too much more, considering this is such a pocket sized camera. I like to take close shots of flowers, and Canon SD600 takes nice macro photos. Not as wonderful as my Olympus C-4000Z, but then again, my Olympus is a huge monster of a camera compared to the SD600. One possible drawback would be the retractable lens with its protective cover. The cover seems somewhat flimsy, as in you could pry open the lens cover easily. When I inspected the Canon models at retail stores, it seems that most of their cameras are built this way. I prefer the way newer Olympus cameras have a protective cover that completely slides over the lens and locks into place, rather than the interlocking pieces that cover the Canon lenses. Also, the cover for the USB cable connection seems delicate. I cringe every time I need to connect my camera to my computer to transfer files. I think you just need to be tender with it, but if anything needs to be changed with this camera, that would be it. For those contemplating Canon SD630 versus this SD600 model, I think that the main difference is that the LCD screen on the SD600 is slightly smaller than the SD630. I thought it would be nice to have the viewfinder on the SD600 in case for some awful reason I needed to conserve battery life. The viewfinder is not good in terms of actually lining up what true image you capture in the photo, but it's good to have, in my opinion. All in all, this is an excellent camera. I took this on a summer trip and had no problem with it whatsoever. It has quick start-up time and shutter speeds. Battery life is long. I was even able to capture some movies with sound. Only advice would be to get a larger memory card. I have a 2GB SD card and it will store approximately 700 photos at the highest resolution for this camera. Read more Less

    This camera is terrific!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 16, 2006 | 8 out of 10 found this Canon PowerShot SD600 review helpful

Pros: The quality and ease of use

    Cons: None yet

I recently purchased this camera and found that for the size and price of the camera, this camera is amazing. I took really wonderful pictures of birds and other animal life in the Everglades. I found the flash to be adequate in dark situations.

    Canon SD630

    Pros: Nice for 6 months

Cons: Lens Stuck - Canon does not fulfill waranty

Bought this amera for my teenager daughter last Christmas 2006. Lasted 6 months and lens got stuck. On starting camera, get "Lens Error - Restart Camera" and it just shuts down. Camera will not restart without the error. Returned the camera... and Canon welches on the warranty saying the camera has scratches and a dent (that you can feel but can't see) on the body which the camera had for the last 5 months - nothing to do with the lens. Charges me $108 to repair it. I currently own 3 Canon cameras and had 2 other before in addition to several Canon printers. As a computer consultant I have recommended Canon products to many of my customers. This is the last time that I will ever own a Canon product and I will never again recommend their products. Obviously this Lens Error is a product design fault as there are many other people that have experienced this with both the SD630 and the SD600. Read more Less

Great for everyday pictures or amateur photography

By terry  Aug 27, 2006 | 5 out of 5 found this Canon PowerShot SD600 review helpful

Pros: very fast with everything (on, off, shot-to-shot), huge LCD with tiny camera

Cons: no slight grip or anything; just a rectangular box

i just got this camera the other day, & it's been working wonderfully. i'm amazed at how clear the pictures are. it's taking me a bit of time to figure out all of the controls, but this camera is definitely worth it. the size of the LCD i...s humongous for a camera of this size, PLUS it has an optical view finder! you usually don't find those on a camera this size & LCD this big, so it's a big plus whenever the scene is too bright to see. the color ("champagne") is also very pleasing to the eye, but not bold at all. it's some extremely faint version of a beige & silver mix. i absolutely love it! plus it just looks so sophisticated -- you wouldn't have to deal with clunky classic "silver"-colore
d cameras anymore. canon definitely chose a nice color that isn't a drastic change from the typical silver, but is still a conspicuous-enough difference. a (small) con i have to mention is that there is no grip to better hold the camera with. it's not a BIG deal however, i'm just a very picky person. but overall, i would totally recommend this camera to people who just want a camera to take daily shots &/or for special occasions, or amateur photographers! it's awesome for those on-the-go people who want to fit a camera just into their shirt pocket. the camera works exceptionally quick, so if you're on your way to work & you want to snap a photo, you can just whip out your camera, turn it on, snap a photo, & continue on your way all in a matter of under 30 seconds. this camera is great, & quite affordable! GET IT!

    Good camera but engineering flaws

By Eric  Jun 1, 2007 | 3 out of 3 found this Canon PowerShot SD600 review helpful

Pros: Big screen, lots of features, sharp pics

    Cons: Lens error

The camera was working great for 6 months and then the lens got off track and no longer focuses. While in my pocket, the power was turned on and the lens motor is fried... Canon is going to charge me a ton to get it fixed. This was my fourth powersho...t canon but I am growing weary of consistent hardware problems. The old powershot has a recessed power button which keeps it from accidental use. Just like a cell phone key lock, a camera should have the same thing... Read more Less
