#1 (fit in pocket) Camera to date

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 7, 2005 | 118 out of 123 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

Pros: Size, 2.5" LCD Screen, Picture Quality, Features, User Friendly

    Cons: Some Buttons too small

I am a designer and amateur photographer who was looking for a SMALL, power-packed camera that takes nice, clean, CRISP pictures. After buying and returning the sony t7 in only a weeks time, (would not recommend the t7!), I decided to do more researc...h and look back into Canon's line as well as other top of the market small(point and shoot/ultra compact) cameras. After doing some time-consuming research i narrowed my choices down to the SD550 and the Casio z750. I have used a few Canon's in the past and have always been pleased by the picture quality and user features. I went with the Canon and after using it for 2 weeks I am beyond pleased with it!! Here's a small wrap up: Pros: - Image Quality - EXCELLENT - User Functions - easy to navigate through the menus, - fluid, simple. - 2.5" LCD Screen - Res is great and would recommend an (LCD protector) to keep the screen clean - MACRO mode - absolete for a camera of its size - Manual Controls - not too many, but ha Read more Less

    CANON does not disappoint!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 15, 2005 | 23 out of 24 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

Pros: Size, 2.5" LCD Screen, Picture Quality, Features, User Friendly

    Cons: None yet

I have used this camera for a month now and have been completely in awe of the picture quality, user menu functionality, and design. Like many other users, i researched a variety of small p&s cameras for a few weeks before purchasing the SD550. I hav...e tried out the Casio z750 (a friend has one) and the image quality the SD550 produces is obsolete. Its small, powerful, and Canon does not dissapoint. I am a mid-level photographer & designer and use this camera almost daily w/ ease. I can't put it down!! Here are my pros & cons. PROS: a- Image Quality! 4 **** b- Flash- way powerful for a camera at that size c- Extremely user friendly d- 2.5" LCD screen is clean and crisp e- Size- small enuf for shirt or pant pocket, yet packs a punch. f- Battery life is way better than ppl give credit for! CONS: a- like most digi cams. Need to upgrade Memory Stick If you are looking for a small, powerful camera that takes Breathtaking photos. the sd550 is the way to go. Read more Less

    Best camera for the price.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 10, 2005 | 21 out of 22 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

    Pros: Too many to list...

Cons: Large screen seems like it may crack easily, depending on how the camera's handled.

I work at Best Buy part time, and have had a lot of experience with digital cameras. Canon cameras have numerous exclusive features like panorama with Stitch Assist, color modes, digital macro, and even video with sound up to 60fps. The photo quality... is phenominal. Even in sports situations, the canon camera maintains stability and can freeze a subject in mid-motion. My only concern with this model is the screen. The large 2.5inch screen seems vunerable to pressure and could easily crack, depending on how the camera is stored. I recommend either a hard case or a soft supportive case for this camera. Overall, I felt that Canon created an impressive 7 megapixel multifunction point-and-shoot camera. I highly recommend this product. Read more Less

    THE BEST

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 14, 2005 | 16 out of 17 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

Pros: Clear image, Mutiple white balence features, THE SPEED OF THIS IS AMAZING .The GRID LINES.

    Cons: battery life

If you have the money get Canon sd 550. THE SPEED OF THIS IS AMAZING its takes less than 1 second to charge and be ready to shoot away. The GRID LINES are helpful to compose a well rounded photo. The menus have a easy to use and read menu with words th...at make the understanding of the icons much easier, Unlike the canon sd 500.On top of all this, This slick camera felt better to me than the Sony CyberShot DSC-P200. Both of which are great. Read more Less

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 25, 2005 | 10 out of 10 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

    Pros: portability, image quality, robust

Cons: short flash, short zoom, slow focus

It is the camera to take with you everyday anywhere you go. Beautiful for instant shots. If you use the highest shutter speed you can shoot the raindrops. Very good value for your money.

    Excellent Point and Shoot!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 8, 2006 | 9 out of 9 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

Pros: Quick start-up, Large display, Long-lasting battery,

Cons: Red-eye reduction flash doesn't seem to work well

In the few days that I've had this camera, I've realized how much I appreciate the quick start-up time that it has. You press the power button, and in just 1 second (or less, it seems)the camera is powered up and the LCD bright, and ready to ...snap a picture! I used a Sony Cybershot before I bought this Canon and it took at least 4 or 5 seconds to fire up. It doesn't sound like much time, but you really get use to the "instant on" right away. The large 2.5" LCD is what first sold me on the camera. It's beautiful! Even with a screen protecting plastic film that I put over it. The larger display makes it much easier to review shots for keeping or trashing before bothering to transfer them to the PC. Speaking of that, the thumbnails come up in view very quickly after you power the camera on while connected to the computer. I did purchase the SanDisk Ultra II card, which has a faster transfer rate than a standard SD card, so that makes a difference. Nonetheless, everything seems to function extremely fast with this camera, and it has some very nice features. My only complaint so far is that the red-eye reduction flash setting doesn't seem to do much. But I've only used it in once, and the lighting in that room wasn't great, so that may be the issue there. Canon also makes a waterproof (to 130 feet!) housing for it. That could be fun! All said, I'm loving this little camera so far! Read more Less

    Pros: looks,picture,features...

    Cons: memory stick

I got the camera for our vacation and the first time i used it i did not know all the features and how to adjust them. Then i spend some time to read the manual and after that it was so much fun because all pictures are so clear.I got a 1gb memoru sti...ck and i can put about 300 plus photos at about 2.5-3.5 mb memoru each.So my advice is-read the manual and get extra memory...i love the camera. Amazing little camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 7, 2005 | 4 out of 5 found this Canon PowerShot SD550 review helpful

    Pros: Small and well made

    Cons: Expensive

While you do pay through the nose for the camera, it is actually a pretty good buy. It should last you a good few years and due to the large image size you're sure not to be left behind as technology improves. The camera comes with a lot of suppo...rting software that you really don't need, but it's good to have the option should you need it. I found that I had problems with the red reduction, but to be fair, I've yet to find a camera that handles this very well. Read more Less
