Pros: impressive zoom, macro, image satbilization

Cons: 5-7 second wait after flash shoot

The zoom is very impressive for a small camera. I can shot colse-up for birds on a tree without disrubing them. It is great in every aspects except the long wait after a flash shot.

Pros: Easy to use, large screen, fast recovery after a flash.

Cons: Date & time stamp allowed only at 2 megapixals setting.

I found myself frustrated with one simply fact . . .if you want to have the date and time stamp on an image you have to change the file size to POSTCARD which means you are saving your picture at a 2 megapixal setting. This means that if you want to ...print out your picture, say up to an 8 x 10, or larger, you are not going to have the sharpness that you may desire. Read more Less

    Amazing

Pros: Fantastic quality for such a small camera

Cons: A bit too large for my pocket

Where do you get a camera as small as this with so many possibilities and so great image quality - Nowhere!! You got 6X optic zoom and 12 if you choose a resolution of less than 3 mill. Thats okay with me, I am not going to make large posters. You ca...n also take macro photos as close as 1 cm! You got image stabilisation and really good pictures as high as 400 ISO, that is, you get good night shots without flash. The flash is not bad, but it is a small flash in a small camera.. In many ways the A710 is as good as the bigger S3 is, but the flash can't reach so far as the S3 is. But again, it is only a small camera of 210 gram.. Amazing! Shutter lag is not a problem, only a bit slow when using flash. Ease of Use gets four Bricks, but only because the camera has extremely many possibilities and it takes time to get to know them all. So all together - clear 5 stars! Read more Less

    More bang for your $$$$

Pros: 6x zoom, image stabilization, color accent

    Cons: flash recycling

This is my second new camera in 6 weeks! I purchased a Canon A550 and loved it. I soon figured out that the cheaper Canon took better pics than my Minolta Z1. I sold the Minolta. I did miss the higher zoom of the Minolta; but without IS, it was usele...ss unless you use a tripod. Since I sold the Minolta, I had practically nothing invested in the A550. I started to think about more zoom in the Canon. I was looking at the A710IS, the A720IS, and the A650IS. I figured that I would wait until after Christmas and maybe the prices would go down on the 2 new models. I compared all 3 cameras and found that the "older" 710 had the features that I was looking for. The 650 is priced higher than I am willing to spend. The new 720 dropped some features that I was looking for: color accent among them. Yep, the 710 is JUST what I was looking for. I started scouring the net for good prices, and as luck would have it, a retailer listed a bundle including a CP730 printer for only $249.95! Sold! I have used it for just a few days and I love it. It did require using the owners manual to figure out the menu. (Unlike the A550, which IS easier to use btw.) This camera gives the user more control. It is fun figuring out exactly what this camera will do. If you are willing to shoot in modes other than auto; this camera takes great pics. If you are NOT willing to tweak it a little, go to the A550, A560, or A570. I kept my A550 for insurance, but now I am going to sell it. I have 3 friends who want to buy it. (They have seen the pics it produces.) I was going to sell the printer that came with it, but after trying it out; I have decided to keep it also. Great 4x6 prints with no hassle at about 28 cents a copy. In conclusion, if you are looking for a point and shoot camera that gives you more control than average, this is a great camera at a bargain price. Read more Less

Pros: Large Screen, 6xZoom, Image Stabilisation, AA Battery, Size, Menu Features

Cons: Bit grainy viewing at 24xzoom

A very impressive small camera. 6xZoom lens, A nice weight and handy size which feels good and holds well in your hands. Lots of features from auto through to manual adjustments and macro for close-up shots. The metering is excellent and image qualit...y is good. A great camera product in its own right, I really liked the 210mm zoom lens and its multi function features. Read more Less

    Superb and Stylish

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 7, 2007 | 6 out of 6 found this Canon PowerShot A710 IS review helpful

Pros: Very stylish compared to other A Series Power Shot Canon.

Cons: Flash recovery takes about 5 to 7 seconds.

I really searched for a compact digital camera that would fit my style, my work and my pocket. When I compared this A710 IS to other series of canon and other brands, I said to myself that this is the one for me. Slow flash recovery. But it's... ok because that depends on how you really be needing your flash. You must really know how your camera works. Because others say that they have trouble shooting at night. Maybe they must understand that its really difficult to shot during the night and some trick and adjustment should perfect the shot. Read more Less

Power Shot A710 IS - "A CAMERA FOR MACROS"

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 30, 2007 | 5 out of 5 found this Canon PowerShot A710 IS review helpful

Pros: Excellent macros upto 1 cm,210 cm focal length,Quick focusing, provision for attachment of extra lenses, easy to use, fast down loading, elegant design

Cons: Noise at low light level, battery consumption, poor image stabilization,LCD resolution is low, wrong placement of flash, small optical view finder

The image quality is quiet good, provided liglt is enough even while useing digital zoom. Macro mode and manual focusing is quiet impressive. But chroma noise is visible at ISO 200 which becomes more prominent at higher ISO level. Image stabilization... is not that effective specially at low light conditions. Read more Less

great surprise for a long-time user

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 18, 2007 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon PowerShot A710 IS review helpful

Pros: 2 AA batteries for traveling; features/cost ratio is really amazing; really compact; IS is a life saver

    Cons: Pack spare batteries !!!

I've been lugging around a Nikon D100 + 24-180 zoom for five years (semi-professionally), and simply couldn't believe how advanced the point-and-shoot has actually become. There are many trade-offs to make a camera this small and light. The f...irst is the loss of the inherent light-gathering advantage of a bigger lens. But the IS saves the day! I don't like the digital end of the zoom as its very noisy. But the 6X delivers pretty good quality all the way out to 6X. The auto-exposure was my next concern but when left to its 'evaluative' metering ~ it does beautifully. I was concerned about the (2) AA battery power. This may be the weakest point in all point and shoots, but being able to buy batteries anywhere in the world was a major consideration for me; and is a huge convenience. ( Best rechargables are the Energizer 2600 mha and they last suprisingly long. Circuit City sells them by the 8 pack) Spare pairs are nothing to carry around! The quantity of available features is dizzying! What a great little camera that yields surprisingly high~quality photography! PS: The D100 is seeing a lot less use these days. Read more Less

    Great pocket camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 27, 2007 | 3 out of 3 found this Canon PowerShot A710 IS review helpful

Pros: image quality, AA batteries, viewfinder, IS, versatility, size, quick

    Cons: weak flash performance

All pocket camera's are a compromise, to get small size, you lose some features. As a pocket/backpacking camera this one is hard to beat. Good resolution, good image quality, a full set of Canon menus, viewfinder, continuous shoot mode, image sta...bilization that works, and a usable zoom lens make this a great pocket camera. Hit the ON button and it is ready to go in under 2 seconds. You do need to learn at least some of the menu settings to get the most from this camera, but it performs adequately as a point and shoot camera on auto mode. If you take a lot of flash pictures this is NOT the camera for you. I would recommend one of canon's A6xx series cameras for those needs, the 2 extra AA batteries make all the difference. This camera can take great night shots with out the flash, just one of the times the image stabilization can make a real difference. Read more Less

    Canon A710IS

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 24, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot A710 IS review helpful

Pros: Zoom, image stabilisation, AA battery life, size, menus, optical finder

Cons: 180 dpi max res, tacky socket covers and tripod mount, indifferent LCD screen res

Nice weight, size and feel with good lens, good zoom, IS and loads of features. Fairly intuitive controls and menu. A very nice little camera let down by a few plasticky fittings and an LCD screen that could be clearer.. The metering is excellent and... the image quality good but not quite great. Very good value from mainline discount suppliers. A very practical small camera. Read more Less
