    Great for first camera

By NorCal Explorer  Jul 17, 2006 | 52 out of 53 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: It is easy to take it out of the box and with only a little reading start taking great pictures. I like the software that came with it which is more or less idiot proof, this makes it perfect for me. I have been using it for several weeks now to get a feel for it. It has worked great out doors and indoors with out any problems. It has servived the 110 degree heat and the dust of back country roads with out any problems. An all around good camera for basic picture taking of people or out door scenery.

Cons: It goes through regular batteries quit quickly, but the rechargable ones last for not only taking 50 or more pictures, but also down loading them to my computer before they give out. The one thing I had to ajust to is the picture you see in the view finder is not what you get. The picture you get covers a little larger area, but with this knowledge and a little practice it is no big deal.

A great camera for the first time user. It is small, but not so small it is hard to use. The features on it our all a beginner would need. The only regret I have is that once I started taking pictures I wish I could change lenses to get the really cl...ose ups. I have bought an add on lens that is held on by a magnet, but I have not field tested it yet and so do not know how great the pictures will be. The short comings on this camera can be over come with out much difficulty. It is a fun camera to use and I have used it to take many out door pictures that turn out wonderfully. Read more Less

Pros: Small, light weight, great for just carrying in your purse

Cons: battery life is shorter with cheap batteries, better used w/ digital camera batteries

i got this camera for my birthday about a month and a half ago. its really nice and light weight, easy to download pics, and has tons of great features. Battery life is really bad with the cheap batteries they give you. Much better with duracell Ultr...a digital. Overall great camera for the money!! Read more Less

    Pros: compact and durable

    Cons: none

This little camara went on several convoy missions in Iraq with me. It was dropped on the floor a few times and kicked by my gunner a few times, and has the dents to prove it. It did not fail me when I needed it. When you see something you have little... time to take the pic. This camara is simple and fast to operate and the quality is great. It is back in the states with me and still working great. Love it Read more Less

    A high quality camera

By Tori  Aug 4, 2006 | 12 out of 12 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: Practical, Full of Features, Reliable

    Cons: Night pictures

I bought this camera as I was looking into getting my first digital camera and did not know exactly what to get. However I did not want to spend more than around 200 dollars overall. Canon simply had the right brand reputation and more affordable pri...ce. This model seemed very good for an all-purpose digital camera. When I saw the first pictures I was stunned by the sharpness, colors, and depth of pictures. It has so many features, that it is hard to remember all of them unless you learn them well over time. It is very easy to operate and has more quality than just an average camera. The only problem may be that night pictures do not come out very well unless they are close up or by using a tripod. Anyway, it is one of the best buys I have had in the last few years. Read more Less

    My first digital camera

By cotodirtdiva  Oct 22, 2006 | 10 out of 10 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: Not too small or too big for my meat hooks(fingers)!

Cons: I do not know what I am missing, seems perfect for a guy who justwants to take pictures. The batteries that they gave were bad but the new ones I bought have lasted quite awhile.

For about $140.00 a 5 meg dig camera for me was perfect. I don't do anything too wazoo, so I just wanted a good picture which the camera produces. I don't think I have taken a picture off the Automatic setting. I was told that for what I do t...here would not be a real need to spend a ton of money for the same quality. I am gald I bought it. My First DIgital Camera

By Jem  Nov 22, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: Quick Power-up, Nice Image Quality

Cons: Flash is not powerful enough for indoor night shots. ISO 800 is noisy.

I wanted my first digital camera to be cheap and can perform good. The Canon Powershot A530 just did that. This camera has enough manual settings to get pretty decent pictures. The image quality is excellent for a cheap 5MP camera. You can start to ...shoot from power up to shooting mode in less than 2 seconds. The battery like is not good on cheap batteries, but on alkalines it lasted about 200 shots. It lasted longer on 2700mAH Ni-MH batteries. Image can get really noisy at ISO 400 and ISO 800 sensitivity. The camera have an exposure time of up to 15 secs. It has I think 26 shooting modes, which are really neat, it can help you choose the right mode for a particular scene. Read more Less

    Great Camera For Beginners

By Christian K  Dec 28, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: Easy to use, Functional, Great Quality

    Cons: Nothing Worth Mentioning

This camera is great for beginners of digital photography, and for those not too savy with technology. It's easy to use, and takes great pictures. You don't need the software package installed to be able to upload the images to your computer ...if you have windows XP installed. Your computer will automatically ask you if that's what you want the instant you hook the camera up. It would be nice if the batteries lasted longer, but you can't expect too much from a digital camera. Rechargable batteries would be a good investment if you plan on using it that much. I recommend this camera whole-heartedly, especially since Canon rarely disappoints me. Read more Less

    An excellent low-budget camera!

By RudolphB  Dec 16, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, High image quality at low ISO, Small size, Customizability

Cons: Short battery life (with non-rechargables), Low power flash, Moderate shutter lag

As a student photographer, I needed a camera which didn't cost too much but provided excellent image quality as well as full control over exposures. The Canon Powershot A530 is an excellent camera for the purpose. It's incredibly easy to use ...and all the shooting options can be accessed quickly and easily. My only dislikes are that the flash is low-power and even at full power doesn't cover more then ten feet, the slight-but-noticeable shutter lag, and the bad battery life with alkaline batteries. Whatever your needs are, this camera is an excellent choice. However, if you want a slightly better-featured camera with interchangeable lenses, go for the A540. Read more Less

    CANNON POWER SHOT 530

By armando  Nov 10, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot A530 review helpful

Pros: SHARP SHOTS, GREAT COLOR, STURDY CONST.

    Cons: ONLY 4 OPT. ZOOM

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CAMERA. IT'S BUILT SO MY BIG HANDS CAN HANDLE IT WITHOUT FEAR OF DROPPING IT. BASICALLY POINT AND SHOOT, WITH VERY QUICK AUTO FOCUS. SURPRISINGLY, THE BATTERIES LAST LONGER THAT I EXPECTED FOR THIS QUALILTY OF CAMERA. WITH TH...E PROVIDED MEMORY CARD I SHOT ABOUT 20 PICS AT MAX QUALITY, BUT WITH THE 1 GIG CARD, I HAVE YET TO COME CLOSE TO FILLING IT, AND ON ONE OCCASSION I SHOT OVER 250 PICS, WITH NO END IN SIGHT. I LOVE TO EDIT (PHOTOSHOP), AND THE PICS ARE GREAT. THE QUALITY AND COLOR ARE "MAGAZINE QUALITY". I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH MY CAMERA, AND I RECOMEND IT FOR BEGINERS AND FOR ADVANCED "SHOOTIST" SINCE IT HAS SOME VERY NICE FEATURES. THANKS CANNON FOR A GREAT CAMERA!! Read more Less
