    A real bargain.

Pros: Great bang for buck, good image quality.

Cons: A bit long in the tooth.

The EOS Rebel is the perfect camera for beginners wanting to get into the DSLR market. It has been around for a while now expect to have less resolution and features, but with the camera selling well below 500$us it's a true bargain. I've be...en using mine for almost 18 months now, and it's never let me down. I've shot close to 9000 shots with it and have had no problem. What a workhorse! So why spend over a thousand bucks for the newer models when this one will perform almost as well, especially for people new to digital SLR? Of course, the salesman at your local electronic store will tell you you absolutely need the latest camera, but unless you have experience(or money to burn), you will not see the difference. So if you have a small budget but want pro results, or want to offer a gift to the budding photographer in your life, the Rebel is it! Highly recommended. Read more Less

A piece of history for affortable DSLR

By esphi  Jun 26, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon EOS Digital Rebel review helpful

Pros: Reliable, good image quality, good handling compared to 350 when mounted with L-Lens and External Flash

Cons: Slow start up & slow read-write time, low resolution, small LCD

Bought this camera few months after it was introduced. Has travelled many countries, from sea level to 4500meters, from sub-0 to 50C, exposed to snow and desert sand. Survived a drop when I fell into a river bed full of rocks in Xin Jiang Province Ch...ina (body scratched). Taken over 10,000 shots with it, and still working fine. I have since progressed from the Kit 18-55mm and 50mm F1.8, to 24-105 F4 IS L and 70-200 F4 L. I am looking forward to the upgrade, (Hopefully 40D when available). But I am sure it will be kept along with all those photo taken with it. Coupled with good lens, it can produce very good quality image, even at ISO400 (It has lower noise level than Nikon D80 at high ISO). However, it requires you to pay attention to framing before pressing the shutter. Because there are only limited number of pixels for you to crop later. Read more Less

    Canon 300D

By Ralph  Feb 1, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon EOS Digital Rebel review helpful

    Pros: Excellent all-rounder

    Cons: Size, start-up time

I have used this camera for professional jewellery shots and a huge variety of everyday use for over two and a half years. With the (expensive) Sigm 28-135mm macro lens it has taken some excellent snaps. The only thing that fools it is when a shot is... half in bright light and half in shade. Read more Less

    Pros: FAST

    Cons: Resolution

This camer is able to use all of my canon lenses that I used on my A2E, At the beginning of the review it asked for cons.. The only thing I could think of is the resolution.. but the photos you take with this camera can easily be printed on an 8x10 a...nd DONT have any grain... 16x19 and VERY little grain.. if any at all...!! And I have gone WAY pas the shutter/mirror problems that others have talked about and have not had a problem yet... Read more Less

    Plastic and Fearless...

By Brandun  Dec 12, 2008 | 1 out of 2 found this Canon EOS Digital Rebel review helpful

Pros: A legend in its own right...

Cons: Like many legends, it's now a bit past its prime.

The EOS Rebel was the first DSLR to hit shelves under $1000 in the US and also the first DSLR I had ever purchased. To this day it still sits on my camera shelf with its much larger and newer cousins and has seen a lot (WAY more than most of my other... cameras). It has been in rivers held just above the water. It has been up mountains placed on makeshift rock-pile tripods. It has been covered in mud, and sand, and had a compact flash card warp inside it from heat. Through it all, this camera keeps on firing and whenever an event comes up that has some risk attached (be it weather, or harsh environment, or the chance of booze being spilled) I'll always take the old Rebel. Now, some may see the gray plastic body and see a cheap camera, but I will attest to this little guys ability to take the hits. And these days, most people will scoff at 6.3 megapixels, but really, for most people this is more than enough. In a way, I wish Canon still made this camera and sold them for $150 or something as I worry about the day when my 300D finally stops working and I'll be without this trusty old friend. Perfect!

    By Barbara  Mar 5, 2009

Pros: Amazing image quality, great auto focus.

Cons: I want it to have a faster shutter speed.

This camera is perfect. I am not the most experienced photographer at all but I have had great results with this camera! Anyone can get good shots with it. I highly suggest it. It is my first SLR camera and is a very good first camera.

    A pretty good camera

    By David  Feb 17, 2009

Pros: The image quality is wonderful

Cons: Lacks in features, small LCD, an overall slow camera

This camera, even though it's old and has only 6.3 megapixels, can create beautiful images. Although the quality is really good, it's very slow, and lacks in features. The fps is pretty slow, which is definitely a drawback. It's very dura...ble though, as it has lasted for many years. First, my dad's friend owned it. After that, he gave it to my dad, who gave it to me after a few years. It lasts a long time and creates amazing images, which is mainly what you want in a camera. Other than a few of its flaws, the camera is great. Read more Less

    First DSLR

    By Baker  Jul 7, 2008

Pros: Great for a beginner like myself.

Cons: It could have offered a little more.

I got mine off of a powerseller on eBay. I had one before, but I had broken it. I like just about everything about it. It's great for a beginner, like myself. And I can't put it down. I take it to work, to my friends' houses, the skatepar...k. Just about everywhere I go. I recommend this camera for all beginners like me. Read more Less

    Nearly perfect

    By Trang  Mar 15, 2007

Pros: The price, shape and weight is fair

Cons: Cannot printing images in very large size

If you are an regular amateur in photography who want use a more professional camera, this one is a good beginning. I think it's easy to use with comfortable function and menu. The quality of image depends on each optical lens. I took some photos... with lens kit 18-55mm and got great result. The outstanding weakness is 6.3 megapixels resolution. Read more Less

    very good

    By AndrĂ©  Dec 10, 2006

    Pros: price, image quality

Cons: kit lenses aren't very good, it takes too long to start up

Mine EOS 300D is already 17,500 shots and works perfectly. I believe the other reviewer had just bad luck. I know people who had mirror problems just after 2,000 shots with a Nikon D200, and it doesn't make it a bad choice. The kit lenses aren&#...39;t that good, but for it's price it's ok. It has good features for the amateur photographer. The newer versions are better, but this camera does a good job. Read more Less
