    Awesome Camera Exceeds All Expectations

By dirt  Dec 12, 2004 | 32 out of 36 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

Pros: Quality, capability, ease of use, image stabilization, data verification for law enforcement

Cons: Price. No way to charge the battery in the camera.

All of my co-workers are jealous. This is a phenomenal law enforcement surveillance camera. It starts up quickly, focuses quickly and with the right lenses takes amazing pictures. I was five stories up shooting through a slightly dirty window and ...could pull plates off of moving cars at 1 and a half blocks away. With 8 mega pixels you can take the shot of stuff you can't distinguish then zoom in on the LCD or later via computer. The Image Stabilization lenses are about double regular lenses in price and the number of good pictures you end up with. It becomes very helpful in low light and for moving subjects. The predictive auto focusing is slightly better than Minolta SLRs. Canon makes an image verification kit for law enforcement to prove the image has not been altered - Very cool for chain of evidence and authenticity issues. Do not play with this camera in a store unless you have $2000+ to spend on it and the IS lenses. Be weary buying this camera online... check to see if that great price is offered by a reputable dealer by looking on the Canon website under where to buy. Professional photographers be ware, armatures can encroach with this camera. Buy the high speed compactflash and you may be able to increase the max burst-at-one-time to 30+ on high resolution and infinite on low res. Also, the included software is very powerful, stiching photos together to make panoramics actually is very easy and works well. Read more Less

    GORGEOUS CAMERA!! :)

By Gigi  May 5, 2006 | 13 out of 16 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

    Pros: Easy to use!!!

    Cons: Be attentive to errors!!

Camera is sold with a Basic Lense from Canon, which is ok if you are novice like me! You can eventually purchase lenses according to your needs, just make sure they fit the camera! ..The camera is absolutely gorgeous!! I'm a girl, and I find it e...asy to handle, I understand that there are components that make this camera work efficiently, so therefore it might have some weight...about a pound or so.., but is bearable! If you cannot handle the weight, get a strap around your neck..or a tripod, is that simple! The CAMERA is worth every penny!! If you are a rookie or have been doing Photography for a while, you will love the quality of your pictures! My best advice is to read the handbook (for those who are new in the field!), so you can appreciate the features better, and enjoy the camera to the fullest..., and of course, you will become better at taking pictures!! I enjoy every moment with my camera, and the results are shown in my pictures! If you are thinking about purchasing this camera, just make sure you buy it with the Canon Lens.., there are several vendors that are selling the whole kit with inferior lenses! Read the item description ALWAYS!If you need to, visit the CANON website for more information, and tips! OVERALL The Camera is just fenomenal! Easy to use, understand and handle! **for more tips, just read the reviews on the EOS 20D Camera Body** They are also helpful! ENJOY THE CAMERA, is a GREAT gift to yourself!! I'm definetely in love with MINE!! Is my first SLR, and I hit the jackpot! As ALWAYS CANON made another GREAT PRODUCT! HAVE FUN!!! Read more Less

    The SLR Dream Machine

By DonS  Nov 12, 2005 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

    Pros: 35mm response without film!

    Cons: Wish it made video

The camera responds as well or better than almost any medium range AF-SLR I have ever used. It simply does it all and offers focusing that is simply beyond belief. Rather than the simple spot focus of past generations, this offers selected area focus...ing... which can address those unusual pictures where it is not quite "flat". Although I'm working with the 18-55mm and the 75-300mm standard zoom (not IS), I'm getting shots the likes of which I could only dream of with early cameras. Personally, pay the slightly higher price. Its fast as heck and this baby delivers the goods. Read more Less

    Great entry level semi-pro camera

By Robert B  Apr 20, 2007 | 3 out of 3 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

Pros: Manual/Auto Controls, Fast Metering, 9-point AF, Sturdy, It's a Canon

Cons: Only one I think is no built in spot meter.

I have had this camera for over 2 years and have been taking great pics the whole time. I have a tiny bit of photography training and more recently became more serious about getting better. Since then, (only about three weeks) I have been able to win... awards for my photos. I have printed 8x10 photos that looked like studio quality. Although the 8 megapixels is no longer the inexpensive top of the line camera, this camera is great for anyone who wants to take excellent casual and semi-professional photography. Large file sizes of up to around 100MB in RAW format, mean you will be able to take about 100 photos on a 1GB CF card. I recommend at least 2GB unless you have a large HD or other media to upload your photos to often. Otherwise, you will easily find yourself running out of room for pics in the camera quickly. This is not a bad thing. You can always downsize the pics, or if you are more concerned about space than quality, you can shoot in jpg mode, which offers much smaller file sizes. I recommend this camera to anyone who wants a decently priced D-SLR without a spot meter. You can of course purchase a separate spot meter, which I prefer anyway. Read more Less

    Love my 20D

By Daryl  Feb 17, 2006 | 3 out of 4 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

Pros: Great quality pics, rapid shots

Cons: Kit lens is only ok, Canon's rebate is slow in coming

With this camera and the right knowlege, you can take professional quality photos. Great feel to camera, sturdy case makes for steady hands. Super easy to use in auto mode and still get nice pics. The standard flash is only for fill light, as it is ...expected that you'll use a supplementary light source for pics of this quality so be aware that you may need to puchase a flash. Read more Less

    Best in it's class

By stewart  Mar 3, 2007 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

Pros: Image quality still puts up a good fight with new cameras that are 10MP

    Cons: none

this camera is by far the best in it's class. If you are sitting on that border where you are not a professional, but love photography and want that professional quality, than this camera is for you. complete control is right and your finger tips.... people say they do not like the setup for the 20D, but it seriously only takes a person 30 minutes at most to know where and what all the buttons are and do. I love the feel of this camera in your hands; but for those who have smaller hands, than this camera can feel a bit huge for you. but i love it. Canon's CMOS sensor is amazing. at 8MP and still competing with 10MP cameras... What more can you ask for. so in the end, sure the camera is a few years older than the D80 and all of that, but I highly suggest this camera over those because you are basically getting the same sharp image quality and everything. this is the best camera you can purchase if you are purchasing your first DSLR camera. i say you should buy this camera over the 30D because basically, the only thing you are paying for in the 30D is the 2 inch screen. its basically the same camera as the 20D but only a few minor features that most consumers will not even use. By Nick  Apr 28, 2006 | 2 out of 3 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, everything about it is quick

    Cons: Price, size

This camera is so easy to use. Feels solid, top quality photos, VERY fast to start up and take pictures.

Only downfall is it is a little bigger than most cameras and the price is a little hefty.

    Canon 20d

By manny  Apr 22, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this Canon EOS 20D review helpful

Pros: Magnesuim alloy body, Handles perfectly

Cons: Expensive compare to 30d up to the end of its model life span

I like the camera even the 30d is out of the market very contend with it even it has a small LCD display.Theres no strong reason for me to upgrade to 30d. I like shooting up to ISO 3200 and still get very descent pictures.Fast start-up time and focu...s very fast with my EFS 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM and my 70-200 f2.8 IS USM lenses. I get almost all clear photos using this combo and color rendition is top notch. Still highly recommended if your saving a few bucks and if you can still find a brand new unit out there in the market and don't mind having a small LCD screen. Read more Less

    The 20D

    By cthomasphoto  Jan 4, 2007

Pros: Great camera, great improvment from the orig. Rebel, Numerous options

Cons: Price, Cheap lense comes with kit

I am an admirer of Canon products due to the fact that Canon unlike most other manufacturers, produces its own image sensors. What you get with Canon is unique. I shoot many subjects from landscapes to portraits. With the right lenses and patients an...d use of a tripod, this camera does it all. Not only is the camera great but I highly recommend using the professional software included with the camera. I find that it understands and produces a much better result than just using Photoshop CS2 alone. I break down and res up or down all my photos from a raw file in their software. I can say that I am a little upset that the 30D came so soon after my purchase knowing that the shutter is rated better in the 30D. Read more Less
