    Great Camera

By Sean  Dec 31, 2006 | 19 out of 20 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

    Pros: Pictures

    Cons: Price

I'm far from a professional photographer, but I am the type that likes lots of buttons and configurable things to tweak. This camera provides a great balance between the two, providing great point-and-shoot modes, while also having pretty good sp...ecialized and manual shooting modes where you can change ISO settings, exposure times, and so forth. But cutting straight to the bottom line, this camera takes some great pictures. It may be pricy, but I believe it is definitely worth it. Read more Less

    Great Camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 9, 2007 | 11 out of 11 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

    Pros: Overall quality and portability

Cons: Does not use AA or other battery types

I usually keep each of my digital cameras for 5 or so years and put a nice bit of research into the purchase of each one. As everyone is likely aware, this camera has received good reviews from most of the retailer reviewers. After receiving the cam...era, I charged the battery and was shooting with an our or two of opening the box. The camera is quite intuitive and feels natural in ones hand. Because it is so small it fits nicely into your pocket and can be carried most anywhere. Next, the photos produced are very vibrant and of the highest quality. I have a little 8 mo old daughter and this camera will be a fantastic tool for capturing those "I wish I had a camera" moments as she grows. In brief, the camera is seems to be of the highest quality, shoots great pics, feels nice and natural to use, and is simple to use. I would recommend it to everyone. Read more Less

    Wake Up Canon

By Mehrdad  Apr 21, 2007 | 13 out of 16 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Size, Ease of Use, Flash, Speed

Cons: Lack of Battery Indicator, memory is a joke

I just bought this camera for $400. It's not the best, but couldn't find anything better. It looks like Canon is playing games with consumers. They leave critical features out, but give you just enought to buy it. 1. Battery meter is not a ne...w feature, but they didn't put it in this camera. The other 2. Why do they supply a useless 32M memory? Isn't that the first thing to be trashed? 3. The "Date Stamp" feature is available only in 1200x1600 resolution mode. What the hec? Why not in other resolutions? 4. Software: MS windows does not talk to this camera. You have to install Canon software. If you don't, you'll have an interview with Windows XP every single time you connect your camera to the computer. Canon should learn from Sony on how to write the software. Read more Less

    Cons: the price

I just bought this camera on friday and i love it. No doubt canon has one of the best quality in ...pictures something i was looking for! great camera but pricey Read more Less

    Excellent pocket camera

By RobertS  Feb 22, 2007 | 9 out of 9 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Very small while having excellent picture quality, very fast!

Cons: Uses proprietary battery, no IS

I got this camera just before a business trip to Taiwan. My older pocket camera was unreliable, and I wanted the latest greatest. This was it. Besides photos, it does full-quality 30fps video with sound. The sound is not very good, but at least it...9;s there. Cannot zoom while recording video (except useless digital zoom). No image stabilization. Manual mode is not fully manual. You can tell it +/- for the exposure, but no actual aperature and speed settings. JPG compression is a bit too much at the lowest setting, so I suggest a 2GB SD card and using the middle compression setting. Resolutions are 10MP, 6MP, 3.8MP, 2MP, and VGA. Can do OK-ish ISO 3200 at 2MP (good for a stealth photo of the sleeping guard). Startup time is very fast and photo review time is VERY fast. Controls are laid out pretty well. Never had the battery die on me. Charger is small and charges the battery outside of the camera (especially good if you buy a spare battery). Buy a card reader because the USB software bites. I am SO happy with this camera!

By YasminA  Aug 1, 2007 | 7 out of 7 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Quick power up, clear image quality, easy to use, has a normal battery (not AA)

Cons: flash doesn't focus too super, very expensive, not too much digital zoom

I went to buy a digital camera for my trip in two weeks. I was looking for something without AA batteries, rather the normal batteries that are charged in a charger. I was afraid the AA batteries would need constant replacement. So I bought a Olympus... Stylus ( I forgot the model) for 200 dollars...I brought it home and tried it out and i was SO disappointed- all the images were grainy and fuzzy. So, I returned it and went back. I figured that cheap cameras are cheap for a reason. I knew Canon was a remarkable brand, because we had a digital camera from them many years ago. The 10.0 MPs sounded really good to me, and it had a normal battery. So, I chose the Canon SD900 10.0 MP, 3.0 Digital Zoom for 350 bucks plus 50 bucks tax. I tried the camera out- BEAUTIFUL IMAGES- crystal clear!!!! I was SO happy. I took the camera on the trip, and the images were great. The biggest con was that: The images were SO large (2-3 megabytes EACH!). That was because of the 10.0 MP feature! If you buy this camera, be sure to change the image quality from Super High and Super Fine to Normal, in the options menu. Otherwise, it will fill up your camera super fast. This camera is also very expensive- it's because of the 10.0 MP option. If you don't have the need for the 10.0 MP, try the earlier models of the CANON Digital Elph Series (7.0 MP, etc. ) Those work just as well, because we used to have a Canon Digital Camera 4.0 MP that was crystal clear as well. I am in love with my digital camera- I don't regret buying it for the high price, but if I had known that there were 7 MP cameras from Canon as well, I would have saved my money and bought those. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a digital camera, GET CANON- they're super high quality and very reliable. I hope this helps you in your search. =) Read more Less

    Canon SD 900

By Katherine  Mar 20, 2007 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

    Pros: Excellent point and shoot

    Cons: Short battery life

While I am definately an amateur, I found the photo quality of this camera to be excellent. I own a Canon ProShot I, which I have used for the past 2 years for everything and this camera is easy to use and fits in your pocket when you are running out... the door. I like to keep a cemera with me all the time and this certainly fills the bill. The only downside is the short battery life. Unfortunately, the camera battery only lasts about 2 hours before needing to be recharged. Hopefully, they will come up with a langer lasting one! Read more Less

One week of putting it through it's paces

By Olga  Feb 27, 2007 | 3 out of 4 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, quality of pictures, you can make it do things it wouldn't normally "want" to do

Cons: Battery cover seems like it MAY break off - it's not as solid as the SD 110

Not a professional photographer, but an obsessed one, In one week I have shot over 800 images on this new camera (to me). The battery only went "low" on one outing (a looong one). I previously had the elph power shot SD 110 (3.2 MP) and the... difference between the two is quantum. For me, the zoom is great, and shutter speed much better than the 110 (but there is still a tiny lag - can't be perfect for the size!) I love the camera and results. Lots of things you can alter, making photos more artistic. Much larger viewfinder helps a lot too. I've not had need for support yet, so will report back on that when the time comes. I highly recommend this for someone who wants high quality that takes up a small footprint. Put a strap on it as it is light, and could drop out of your hands easily. Found the best price in LA was at Best Buy, and for extra batteries at Fry’s. Read more Less

    Titanium is always a plus

By Ducky  Nov 9, 2007 | 1 out of 1 found this Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: DigicIII processor is lightning fast, titanium body holds up better, optical view finder handy on bright sunny days, IT'S A CANON,

Cons: DigicIII processor consumes more battery power the previous processor (DigicII), no Image Staboliser,

I sell hi-tech goods all day. It's my job. Canon's always out perform everything else out there. The only costumers who buy Nikons are the ones who either can't afford a Canon or the ones who falsely assume "if it ...costs alot, I must be buying the name brand." The Canon SD900 is no exception to Canon's dominating pole wins as far as "Who makes the best cameras?" To save you time in reading, I have 4 WORDS for you... TITANIUM NO IMAGE STABOLISER There. Now you have what makes it stand above the rest (on top of being a Canon) and you have THE ONLY flaw in it's design. Now for those who want elaborations... 10 megapixels is enough resolution to print out a billboard, so don't ever worry again about "Is the resolution high enough?" With an optical view finder (every company seems to be neglecting) you can use the viewfinder instead of the LCD on a bright/sunny day to SAVE BATTERY and also SEE what you're shooting (Ever try reading your cell phone's LCD on a bright day? That's exactly my point.). Being 5 times stronger then stainless steel (and 10 times lighter) per cubic inch, titanium has become quite a valuable metal over the past 30 years. For those of you who think the price boost on this camera is the body metal... ...you're only partialy right. You see, aluminum (what alot of metal Canon's are made of including that soda can you drank for lunch earlier) is 90-95% Aluminum ...and 5-10% titanium. So we all are actualy using titanium everyday, just not aware of it. Now when something is 90-95% titanium, you've got a can you can't crush however. And THAT is a good thing to protect the fastest digital camera processor to date in the industry (Digic iii) and a CMOS senser with a 10 megapixel resolution. My only complaint is there is no image staboliser. Ironicly, Canon's down-stepped SD800 and SD 850 models DO have Image Stabolisers. So why not on the SD900? Honestly, if you have a processor so fast you can turn on the camera, focus, snap the picture, transfer the data to the flash memory (Secure Digital; "SD") and then turn it off ... IN LESS THE ONE SECOND... Who on Earth would need an image staboliser in the first place? I'm not sure anything I photograph could keep up with the camera! We're so use to cameras not keeping up. For once... the tables have been turned. The ONLY place I do not sugest using it is in dark open areas. the Photo industries ONLY weakspot is lighting. You bought a point-N-shoot, not a flood spot light. But other then that... the SD900 is wrather brilliant. Let's see if Hampster can fumble this one. Read more Less
