    Be Careful!

    Pros: Great Pictures!

    Cons: Breaks!

I have been a fan of Canon and have loved my Powershot for a year. However! Recently, my Canon recieved a E18 error (aka lens issue). I did not drop it or bump it. It just stopped working. Come to find out, this is a common occurance with Canons and ...there is currently a class-action lawsuit due to this malfunction. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Canon, only to face rude tech support and customer service. Result: it is going to cost $200 to fix the issue and it could happen again. Do your research and if you like Canon, be prepared to take a risk. Read more Less

    Pros: great photos, durable

Cons: expensive, wide angle lense would be better

Many professional reviews I studied raised red flags over such miniscule things like the location of the on/off switch or the overresponsiveness of the mode dial, but I found neither to be bothersome. Yes, the on/off switch would be better on top, b...ut it doesn't bother me at all. The reviews did rave about the photo quality and that's what sold me. And I agree. The pictures look great. This is a great replacement to the already reputable SD700. The only thing that was lost in this model that I believe the 700 had was a wide angle lense, but again, that is a much too small complaint to not love this camera. I highly recommend it. Great Travel Camera!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 11, 2007 | 15 out of 19 found this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH review helpful

    Pros: Pocket-sized, Large Images

    Cons: Digital Zoom Grainy

I love this little camera! I carry it with me everywhere. The features are awesome, especially the "special shooting" menu, which has pre-sets for different situations. (i.e. the beach, the forest, indoors, kids & animals......) The one thing that's not good, is the digital zoom. If you use it, the photos come out grainy and with a lot of noise. By zooming once, you're using the camera's optical zoom (which is great) but if you zoom a second time, it's the digital. So... Check your photos! All-in-all, a fantastic little camera! I even used it as a secondary when shooting a wedding last month! Read more Less

    What you're looking for

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 21, 2007 | 11 out of 12 found this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: quality of pics, size, ease of use

    Cons: none

I did a great deal of research looking for the camera that got it right. I'm no professional by any means. But I wanted a camera that took great pictures, was small, easy to use, and had enough zoom to take distance pics. The 850 was the camera t...hat did all that the best. I've not been disappointed at all. It's so easy. So small. The pictures are great. In fact, it's better than the SD800 and SD870. The 870 is much more expensive and you actually lose zoom ability. The 870 has more megapixels but more than 8 in a point and shoot is worthless. The price is a little daunting for some folks. I'll give you that but if you want the best, you have to pay a bit. I don't think it's THAT much more than it's competition and with the quality you get, it's definitely worth the extra money. Read more Less

Canon PowerShot SD850 IS -- LIGHT and SWEET pics

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 30, 2008 | 10 out of 11 found this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Stunning picture quality, generour battery life, no-fuss USB pics transfer to PC

Cons: menus can be a bit non-intuitive

I took some pics over the weekend in a dark Irish pub. On Auto, the camera distributed the flash perfectly and I got unbelievably good exposure under the not-so-great lighting conditions. This camera does a very, very nice job with light values (The ...most important function of any camera!). My pics come out great consistently (With just a tiny bit of tweaking in Photoshop, they are near-studio quality). As others have said, I did my homework as well, and this little beuty turned out to be all I thought it would be...and more. Read more Less

    Fantastic Camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 16, 2007 | 12 out of 16 found this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Upgrades features from previous models

    Cons: None at all

This camera upgrades features in previous series. This is my third camera in the series, and the SD850 is definitely the one! Everybody who has laid hands on it doesn't want to give it back. Highly recommended.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 9, 2008 | 7 out of 11 found this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH review helpful

    Pros: heavy duty, clear images

Cons: shutterlag, antishake is awful, expensive for what you get

Get a sony, casio or panasonic if you want a good point and shoot. Canon can only make good PRO cameras now.

    avoid this camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 14, 2008 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot SD850 IS Digital ELPH review helpful

    Pros: none

Cons: camera lasted only three years; poor customer support

It became useless after only three years when the LCD screen went black and any pictures I tried to take were black. LOTS of people had this problem--do some research online. canon wanted to charge me $90 to fix it. I'll never buy canon again.
