Great camera for the pocket, and the printer!

By AnonymousA  Nov 29, 2004 | 37 out of 37 found this Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Tiny size, huge LCD screen, quick start-up, quick shot to shot time, best video mode (on digital camera), Canon!

Cons: expensive, not too many controls, optical viewfinder is a joke, some image problems

Overall, I love this camera! I searched for months... and I became less and less satisfied with the smaller models, and was leaning towards a bigger camera, but then I found out about this. True, this is my first digi-cam. But I certainly did my home...work, and I am quite pleased with the camera. First off, take it ANYWHERE. It is that tiny! The LCD screen is perfect, with an anti-reflective coating, and it is definitely sufficient for taking photos and reviewing. The quality of Canon is widely known, so I bought it before anyone had reviewed it. I will not look back. True, there are a few high contrast image problems, but I haven't experienced any yet. Overall, a great camera. Bonus! The best movie mode on a digi cam to date! Great quality video, just get a huge memory card (256 isn't enough for me). At any rate, it is a bit expensive, but if money is not a premium, then this is truly a great camera! Anyway, only reason not a 5 star camera is because it doesn't blow my socks off (I'm stingy with my fifth star. One other thing: When handing it to people, remind them not to get their greasy hands on the screen (I cringe everytime someone wants to see it, I have had to wipe fingerprints so many times). Great camera, but pricy for 4mp

By jchin  Nov 15, 2004 | 21 out of 21 found this Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH review helpful

Pros: Small size, great pics, and videos, easy to use.

Cons: Pricy for 4mp, flimsy door for usb download.

I'm not an expert, so bare with me...I've had the SD300 for about a week now. This camera takes great pictures, comparable to the Canon S400 and the S40. Yes, I do notice the occasional purple fringing in extreme bright light conditions, but ...that doesn't really bother me to much. Overall I'm really happy with it so far......................
.....The pros:- Very small.- Great pictures.- Great 640x480 videos, that look very similar to good digital TV quality.- The 2 inch LCD is definitly large enough for a camera this size.- Very simple to use, the menus are more intuitive and seems more simplified compared to the Canon S400 and S40 models...................
...................The Cons:- The video files are obscenely large! The downside to taking such great looking videos are extremely large files. Canon advertises the video feature of this camera as only limited by the size of your memory card. So I got myself a 1GB SD card thinking this should be sufficient. At approx. 100 mb a minute it seems a 1GB card can barely hold 10 mins of the best quality video. That's pretty sad.- Also, the SD300 has a very flimsy cover for the USB interface, very easy to break off. I'd recommend, getting a seperate card reader.- No battery life indicator.- A bit grainy/noisy at darker lighting conditions, but it's not too bad.- Pricy for a 4 mega-pixel camera.Overall, it's a great pocket camera. And worth the buy if you don't mind spending a bit more for a 4mp camera.
