    POWERSHOT S70 = GREAT CAMERA!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 19, 2004 | 23 out of 34 found this Canon PowerShot S70 review helpful

Pros: 7.1 Megapixels, Solid feel, Canon quality, Decent size, TONS of shooting modes

Cons: Battery life if any....otherwise NONE!!

Not many cameras can match the features the S70 offers. For me this was an upgrade from the Powershot S50 which I used for just over a year. USB 2 would have been nice. The menu/navigation buttons are much improved. BUY IT YOU'LL LOVE IT!

    i couldn't do without it

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 21, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this Canon PowerShot S70 review helpful

    Pros: versatile & small

    Cons: lens quality, FRINGING nightmare

in such a compact camera, it is hard to find so many [useful] features, and almost total freedom with the manual settings. if you like to push and pull boundaries, it will go all the way with you. the major setback, an awful fringing problem, difficu...lty to focus in low light, and a fairly poor lens quality (the lens, btw, is a 28-100mm.) but that's only because i wish for a compact camera able to do the job of a 5D... at a reasonable price. in short, it is an unbelievable camera, i've used it for over a year, upgraded from a S30, which i still use. i cannot stress enough: if you see one under $400, buy it, you won't regret it. i have tried many of the newer point & shoot, none come even close to this. A Good Value Camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 2, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this Canon PowerShot S70 review helpful

Pros: Image Quality, Compact Flash & Battery Life

    Cons: Sliding Door Over Lens

Overall this is a very good camera, light enough to carry in my shirt pocket and the image quality is fantastic. If it is possible this camera might have too many features making selection of often used features time consuming to turn off and on. I l...ike the self timer feature but it has to be selected from a series a menus opposed to just a single button. The overall feel is solid the only thing that appears to be a little weak is the door that slides over the lens to turn the camera off and on. The battery life is excellent on a recent vacation I took over 400 photos over 10 days without ever charging the battery. I also have several other devices that use the compact flash cards so finding a camera with these high end features and useing perhaps a little older storage format is great for me. A solid "A" rating on this one. Read more Less

    one last detail

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 17, 2005 | 1 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot S70 review helpful

    Pros: excellent throught

Cons: now date stamp on picture

everything works as a real camera is supposed to work. no faults there.... but... I still would like to have the option of putting that date stamp on the bottom right hand corner of my finished photos. I know in the computer on my screen I can see... the date...but I make prints. I don't go back to the computer to look at the pictures. So....I want to have the date stamp on the finished printed photo itself. Hope you guys can come up with this little software patch to install into the computer to make it include the dated stamp. Read more Less

    This camera rocks!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 17, 2008

Pros: Somewhat small, always in focus, fantastic shots

Cons: Too large to fit in most pockets. Symbols can be rubbed off if you are not careful.

I had the Canon PowerShot S50 and loved it. When the S60 came out it wasn't all that different. When the S70 came out I jumped on it. Took it on a cruise from San Francisco to Hawaii. Got over 2000 photos and most all of them turned out great. Th...is little workhorse is very easy to use and the photos are sharp and the colors are very accurate. You can't beat it for cost and size. Read more Less

    good dc

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 15, 2007

    Pros: 7.1mp, light, many func.,

Cons: old digic processor, focus, bat.

A powerful compact dc. The focus not quite well in macro, manual focus hard to use. Buttons design unconveniency. Any how, picture quality perfect. Nice cam, I love it

    Addicted to RAW

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Apr 1, 2007

Pros: RAW capture in a compact, wide angle, sturdy design, auto-orients photos

Cons: lens cover occasionally annoying, minor barrel distortion at widest zoom, dead sensor pixels

¶ If you want *clean* 7-Mpx images from a compact camera, and don't mind adjusting your photos, then find one of these on eBay and manage your photos with Aperture or Lightroom. And get a big CF card, because RAW shots are about 6 MB. ¶ Got a ...deal on eBay. Did a lot of shooting and lost the camera, so I found another, even cheaper. ¶ The body is mostly metal, including the integrated lens cover, so I just stick it in my jeans or coat pocket. Dropped it on a hard floor once, so I just ignore the dent and it still works just fine. ¶ Battery lasts for a full day of tourist shooting and recharges quickly, but I always keep a spare. ¶ Lens cover is also a minor design quibble. Sometimes while gripping the camera, I accidentally shift the cover a couple of millimetres: this is enough to power the camera off, then have to close & open it to turn it on again. Once in a while, it won't turn on, and I realize the camera-strap string has wandered to the front of its loop and keeps the lens cover from fully opening. ¶ 28-mm wide angle is great for landscapes and architectural shots. It has a touch of barrel distortion at full wide, which disappears when you zoom in a bit. ¶ The sensors in both my cameras have a number of dead pixels. between 3 and 12 of these show up in very dark RAW photos, and are easily spotted and removed with heal or rubber-stamp tool. Most are 1-px green dots, a few are larger blue or red dots. [Yahoo, respect my paragraph breaks, so I don't have to enter ugly pilcrows!] Read more Less

    Pros: Excellent Pictures

    Cons: Camera Doors

I love this camera, but I think the doors could be made Better. The door to the battery compartment is on the same side you take the picture on, and on some occasions when I have tried to get a better grip or different angle on the camera, the door h...ad been bumped open and it shuts the camera off. The same goes with the lens door. I have more of this problem with the lens door. I have noticed over the years that the door has come a bit loose from opening and closing all the time, so when it is bumped, this too will shut off the camera. I just recently went to a convention where I took alot of pictures and even though the pictures turned out great. I stopped using the camera half way through the convention because it was more of an annoyance. The movie stars didn't have time or want to wait while the camera turned on 2-3 times each time i took a picture. Read more Less

    after two years of use

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 15, 2007

Pros: Size, value for money, wideness of the lens

Cons: lens cover, the manual focus does not work at its best with bad light conditions

This camera is perfect for people that want a pocket camera, but are not satisfied with just "point and shoot". The camera offers a lot of easy to handle, manual adjusment possebilities , great image quality and a RAW function. There are a...lso a few setbacks, such as the sliding cover that sometimes closes at the wrong moment beacause you have to grab the camera on the sliding part, second the manual focus that is not easy to handle, not that I use it a lot but it is worthless, Third, in low light conditions the camera uses the flashlight too quickly (to my taste) and the autofocus does not peform well in all situations. In the end the camera is great, the setbacks are not that severe and it functions great in overall perspective. Read more Less
