The PowerShot Pro1 is the digital compact for serious photographers. It includes an 8.0 megapixel CCD, retractable 7x L-series zoom lens, hybrid AF system and Micro Ultrasonic Motor.

The PowerShot Pro1 has an 8.0 megapixel CCD for high-resolution printing up to A2. Its Canon 7x L-Series zoom lens (35mm equivalent: 28 - 200mm, f/2.4 - f/3.5) includes fluorite and UD elements to significantly reduce chromatic aberration. The PowerShot Pro1 features a new hybrid AF system, which together with the Micro Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides quick, quiet auto-focusing to ensure you don't miss that perfect shot.

The combination of Canon's unique iSAPS technology to optimize shooting settings, high-performance DIGIC processor for fast processing, together with Image Rendering technology for accurate reproduction of colors, ensures every shot is represented faithfully. Because every shot is different, Canon has made the PowerShot Pro1 incredibly versatile. There are 12 shooting modes - from Manual to Auto (including 2 custom settings), for greater creative control.

There's a choice of two color space formats - standard sRGB and Adobe RGB. With a choice of 3 compression rates and 5 resolutions, plus RAW mode for maximum image data recording, you have a total of 16 modes for increased recording flexibility. As well as total compatibility with the complete range of EX Speedlites, the PowerShot Pro1 has optional telephoto and close-up lenses for you to achieve any desired perspective.

The PowerShot Pro 1 puts ergonomics to the fore - placing controls exactly where they should be. Its 2.0" vari-angle LCD is bright, easy to read and tilts to just the position you want. The tough, black body fits comfortably in your hand, while a large grip lets you hold the camera steady as you compose your shots.

    Pros: Easy to take excellent quality images, LCD swivel screen, size of camera is small

    Cons: Cons? Not many, maybe the camera is not excellent in low light situations.

    Sharp,clear image quality right on color. The LCD Screen is nice and big, and swivels! The size of this camera makes it easy to take everywhere. The PRO 1 starts up quickly and is easy to use once you read the instructions. Red eye is minimal with th...is camera. I say this because my last camera a Canon A80 was terrible when it came to Red eye. This camera is a good Good Point and Shooter. It also has many options that the the pros will love playing with.     With 8.3 megapixels and using Canon's own "L" series high quality lens, this is the high end of compact cameras.You can control every setting as a manual 35mm camera (including focus manually), plus full function automatic.It has a buil...t in pop-up flash just to keep the camera generally friendly without investing in add-ons.However, if you are in to add-ons, you can add everything from the base 300 series flash to the top of the line 550EX you can find on high end EOS cameras.You can even add-on a telescopic lens as well as a macro lens for closeups.This camera has it all. The power of a high end 35mm camera with a user friendlyness of a compact camera.Yes, you can have it all.Even the $999 original price tag has come down significantly to the point where it is now compariable with high end 5 megapixel cameras.This is the right solution for those high end professional as well as amatures.     Canon packs 8-megapixel imaging in a surprisingly small and functional package.The PowerShot Pro1 is a sweet camera. With its all-black body and lens barrel-based zoom control, it has the feel of a very compact single-lens reflex model. It's built on the now-standard advanced digital camera shape: a squared-off body with a large protruding lens and a chunky right-hand grip that doubles as the camera's battery compartment. But the Pro1 feels significantly smaller in the hand than its competitors--especially other 8-megapixel models. An easy-to-grip ring on the camera's stubby lens barrel controls the zoom. It's still a powered zoom, but a fairly smooth and precise one nevertheless. The ring doubles as your focus control when the camera's manual focus is switched on. Unfortunately, this arrangement does make it difficult to use the camera one-handed. Read more
