Pros: large screen, handy controls, long battery life,

    Cons: haven't found any yet

I have always been a Nikon person and even bought a Coolpix 5400. I returned the Nikon because I wasn't satisfied. Admittedly, I am very picky about my cameras. I bought this G6 about 2 months ago and have been very pleased with this camera. The ...battery life is incredible. It has many functions which I have yet to try out, yet it is a very simple camera to use right out of the box. (Which is what I do - use first and read the manual later!)I have never bought a Canon before - just one Minolta and many Nikons. I am just extremely pleased with this camera. The flash is small, but does an excellent job of illuminating the area. The macro function is simply awesome. I have never had a camera that would take pics at 2 inches or so. The detail is great. I am also pleased with the screen size. Many cameras are going for smaller and smaller screens, but those small screens lose much detail. You have to download the picture to see if it is good or not. All in all, as picky as I am, I am very pleased with the G6. Read more Less

    Excellent Camera

By Dave  Mar 1, 2005 | 9 out of 11 found this Canon PowerShot G6 review helpful

Pros: Style, weight, picture quality, ability to add features, long battery life, etc, etc.

    Cons: None found so far

I purchased this camera about 2 months ago. I also own a Powershot S50, and a Powershot S60. I purchased the G6 for it's increased picture resolution, features, ability to add on items (flashes, lense adaptor w wide angle/macro lenses and filter...s, etc.). For the money the camera is excellent overall. A lense adaptor and/or filters are NOT needed for this camera, but are good additions if you plan on using this camera in a variety of lighting conditions. You do not need a filter for the built in flash, or a wide angle/zoom shot. The ability of ANY built in flash is limited, as is true in any camera you buy. I have purchased the lense adaptor (52mm) along with a UV filter, and the Canon 550ex flash for this camera. I love the flash; makes for incredible lighting control (once you learn how to use the flash properly). The inability to swap lenses as with the Pro 1 or DSLR cameras is a given, and I didn't buy it thinking I would be able to change the lense itself. The lense adaptor along with a wide angle/zoom or macro lense works wonderful. I would recommend this camera to anyone who is looking for a great quality camera at an intermediate user level. The camera will perform as a point and shoot camera, but has a wealth of features beyond that would are easy to use once you become familiar with them. I would buy a much larger CF card than what comes in the box though. Read more Less

    Canon PowerShot G6

Canon's latest iteration of its advanced compact camera stays on top with higher resolution, powerful features, and great image quality. The PowerShot G6 is a compact and powerful 7.1-megapixel digital camera that should appeal to advanced photographers. It's the latest in Canon's G series, which dates back nearly five years to the original PowerShot G1. The G6 returns to a silver body color, though we think the all-black G5 looked more professional. But the G6 is also about 10 percent smaller, making it even easier to shoot one-handed when you're grasping its chunky handgrip. Read more

    Canon Powershot G6

If you're in the market for a rangefinder-style prosumer digicam, the Canon PowerShot G6 should be at or near the top of your list of likely candidates. Oh - and if you hadn't guessed by now, the G6 was also a shoo-in for a "Dave's Pick" as one of the better models on the market. Read more
