    Canon A590

Pros: Size, Picture Quality, view finder

    Cons: Transfer program, Zoom location

One of the reasons I choose this camers was that it had a viewfinder. When my older kodak died I wanted another one but none of the less expensive ones had a viewfinder :( I did buy a Kodakthat did not have a view finder but I was not as steady hold...ing the camera at arms length. With the view finder my shot are very steady:) Picture quality with this camera is great :) Even when I look at them on the computer screen or print them out on full sheet of paper. There are some times in the auto mode that it washes out some pcitures. I think thats when I have too much bright sky in the picture. As long as I am a bit more careful, it wont over adjust. This is great size too. A little smaller woudl have been nice but it easily fits in my purse or in a jacket pocket. Zoom works well but I wish it was on the back like my Kodak was. And the trasnfer program does automaticlaly delete the picture like the kodak program did:) And there are lots of feature - probably more than I will ever really use but will be fun to try! Overall a great camera though :) I would recomend it! Read more Less

    Great little camera

By Grant  Nov 6, 2008 | 16 out of 19 found this Canon PowerShot A590 IS review helpful

Pros: Lots of exposure modes, image stabliser, easy to use.

Cons: Supplied 32MB SD memory way too small.

I moved up to this model after using a Canon A470 camera. The A590 adds image stabiliser and more control over the exposure with settings for Program, Aperture or Shutter Speed priority. The image stabiliser works well at maximum zoom allowing steady... shot, also for macro closeups, for example when the wind is blowing a flower about.I bought a 4GB fast SD HC memory card for the camera as the supplied 32MB memory is way too small. Having a large memory allows me to store images at best resolution and superfine quality. Images can be resized and have the quality reduced for smaller files destined for web sites. The camera is easy to use, although the screen is difficult to view in sunlight, I suspect this would be the case for any camera screen. The viewfinder is handy at times particularly in bright sunlight when the screen is too hard to see, one reason for me upgrading to the camera was to get the viewfinder option. The software supplied with the camera is okay, but I prefer to use the free Irfanview windows program for image resizing and cropping. There's an option for stitching a series of shots together which works quite well. The camera image downloader software is good, creates dated folders on the fly for images. The prices on Australian websites varied widely, RRP is AU$169, I paid a little less than this for Internet mail order plus delivery, and about $25 for the 4GB memory card.I like it! Surprised by image quality

Pros: Compact and easy to carry

    Cons: Controls are not intuitive

I bought this camera to use underwater so as not to risk losing my mega$$$ ones to water damage. I've had so much fun using it that I haven't even tried it underwater yet. The controls take some getting used to switching between reviewing im...ages and taking photos. The image quality is awesome. The memory card is too small. Get a 1meg card when you buy the camera. Love my new Canon Powershot

By DARLENE  Sep 20, 2008 | 10 out of 10 found this Canon PowerShot A590 IS review helpful

Pros: Fits anywhere, fast shutter times, easy to change settings

    Cons: None

I had an Olympus 720 for about 6 yrs and when I decided to upgrade I had my graphic design major daughter give me a hand in picking a new camera. While I'd love to have a DSLR, they're just too big to be stuffed in my saddle bag and hauled ar...ound the woods. Not to mention it should be a crime to do that to a really good camera! This Canon is very portable. Fits in it's own padded bag, inside one of my saddle packs, very handy to get to. The settings are quick and easy to change around so I can get the best possible pictures from on top of my horse! Read more Less

Pros: Fast, Takes AA batteries, Compact, Very easy to use

Cons: Full flash takes a few seconds to cycle

I would have expected to pay twice this amount for the features and quality. I have taken over 1200 pictures with it already and am flat out amazed! Others have asked what kind of camera do you have that took those pictures? Get some high capacity re...chargeable batteries (two sets) and a larger memory card and you are set to take an amazing amount of pictures at the highest quality settings. This camera fits all my needs perfectly. Small, easy to carry, easy to use and the IS feature is a bonus too! Read more Less

    Canon A590

    Pros: Excellent pictures in daylight

    Cons: Hardly anything

I bought the Canon A590 after reading a exhaustive number of reviews. I am one of those persons who figure if 20 million people say something is good, they must have a point! It takes great pictures in daylight and in night light also, but you must a...djust to the right setting. One thing I found useful is the Aperture function. It really helps with a dark background. It's beautiful also, shinier than in the pics, so I was wowed when I opened the wrapper. It's relatively light also, except when you add batteries (I put in Duracell) and it made it a bit heavier. I liked the reviews so much that I bought two, one for me and one for my mother as a Christmas gift. I have not required any customer support as yet so i don't have a rating for that. What I don't like is the time it takes for the flash to be ready after taking a picture. Other than that, i love the menu options e.g. add sound memo, view pics as a slide show etc. And a fabulous surprise also was the software to download pics onto a computer. I love it!! It makes it so easy to name many pics at once. I compared this feature to a Kodak camera where i had to rename each pic after downloading it. Now i can name each one and put into folders. Excellent Point and Shoot.

By Andrew  Dec 24, 2008 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon PowerShot A590 IS review helpful

Pros: Image quality, manual controls, macro abilities, image stabilization, price.

Cons: Flash recharge time between photos.

I have no major complaints about this camera. It handles just about everything I throw at it. This camera stays true to the Powershot A line, unlike the newer A2000 IS and A1000 IS models, which have generated tons of complaints and unsatisfied custo...mers. This model still features manual settings, which allow people to compose photos that don't just look like impromptu snapshots that one could obtain with any other camera on the market. Look up the Camera on Flickr, some of the results are amazing. For the price, this camera cannot be beat. I paid less than $130 for this camera, and would have gladly paid more for it. Sadly, if the A2000 & A1000 models are signs of what's to come, this might be the last Powershot A series camera that isn't dumbed down and cheaply made. I highly recommend the A590 IS. I love my canon!!!

By Matt  Jan 18, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Canon PowerShot A590 IS review helpful

Pros: You can change settings for anytype of photo op.

Cons: Unless you have used a canon in the past, They are not really user friendly to get started.

I love my canon powershot. It has let me take pictures that other cameras didn't have a setting for. I love the fact that you can be a beginner or a pro with this camera. It lets you shoot completly by yourself or gives you the easy use of the se...t settings. The powershot A590is also lets you change lenses. So you get a professional camera in a beginers (point and shoot) size. I would suggest a canon to anyone wanting to take great pics. Read more Less

    By Leticia L  Nov 27, 2009

Pros: good zoom, good megapixels, nice settings and features

Cons: a bit on the chunky side, screen scratches

I got this as a gift and I love it. It's great, and it has lots of different settings where you can personally adjust the camera to your needs. The screen is a bit scratched up, but you can still see, and you hardly notice the scratches when it&#...39;s on, but it'd be nice for it to be not scratched. It's a bit on the chunky side, but it's alright. It uses two regular AA batteries, which is good because if you run out, you can just run to the store and get some more, instead of charging. It's great if you have a medium sized bag. This won't fit with your stuff if you have a small purse. Also, make sure to put it in a case so the screen doesn't scratch. It's a nice quality camera and takes nice photos. Read more Less
