    Love, love, love this camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 16, 2008 | 12 out of 12 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, menus well thought out

Cons: Needed a firmware update right out of the box

This is my first adventure in the world of digital SLR after years of film SLRs and digital point-and-shoots. This is my favorite camera EVER! I've never had a camera this flexible where EVERYTHING was easy to find, even those options you only us...e once a year. The only disappointment with the camera was that the firmware needed an update for the RAW files to work with the software shipped in the same box. Really no excuse for that. Read more Less

    Great all around camera

By MarkD  Oct 14, 2008 | 7 out of 7 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Easy to use. Feature packed. Easy to update firmware. Connectivity options. Great value.

Cons: The USB port cover on the left side is a bit flimsy

Canon really did a superb job on this model. The XSi is so easy to configure and navigate. Even the more complex, custom configuration tools are easy to get at quickly. Everything on the exterior of the camera is well laid out. One word can easily su...m up the overall design, "Intuitive". Not just the physical attributes, but the Camera’s software design as well. This is such a welcome addition and perfect combination in the ever evolving technology of digital photography. The computer software that is included with the XSi is by and far one of the best software suites I’ve seen regarding DSLR kits. They even include a separate tutorial CD that teaches you how to use the included software. A really nice touch. I used to use Adobe Lightroom for my RAW file post processing. Not any more. The bundled software is so much better and allows far more control over post processing adjustments that are specific to the XSi. Thank you Canon! The other cool thing about the XSi is the ability to update the onboard firmware. It’s as simple as downloading the latest revision from Canon’s customer support site, plugging in the USB cable, and double clicking Canon’s update file. This whole process only takes a few minutes, and your off and shooting with the most current version of firmware in your camera. If you’re not interested in the myriad of technical tweaks and options availble, no problem! The auto functions make this camera a breeze to use, right out of the box. With better than average results, thanks to the incorporation of Canon’s Digic III microprocessor. Until the introduction of the XSi, the Digic III was reserved for Canon’s higher end professional line of DSLR’s. Battery life is amazing. I’ve gone on full day shoots and filled 12GB of memory with RAW files on one charge. With plenty of power left over. The 3” LCD screen on the back of the XSi is a real pleasure. Everything is easy to view and soft on the eyes. Reviewing image captures is a luxury on a screen this size when you’re out and about. Another cool little feature regarding the 3” LCD display is the proximity sensor. When you put your eye up to the viewfinder, the LCD shuts off automatically, preventing light from distorting your view while shooting. When you move away from the view finder the LCD comes back on instantly. This is another expample of the “little” things Canon has put generous thought into when it comes to the XSi’s design. It really is a fun camera to use. If you’re looking for a DSLR to meet a wide variety of shooting demands, the XSi is a perfect choice. It’s so simple to use, yet you can configure it to shoot incredibly complicated shots. I can honestly say that I would recommend the XSi to anyone. Novice and pros alike. Read more Less

    Fantastic Camera

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 18, 2008 | 6 out of 7 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, image quality, doesn't feel cheap

Cons: live view is ok, no manual in English supplied

Ok, I'll start off with my cons. The reason the manual didn't come in English is because I live in France and ordered it from Amazon.fr. I would have expected a manual in English however, as I received a manual in French (of course), German, ...Italian and Dutch. As English is the international language, I was surprised not to find one included. At extra cost to me, I had to purchase a manual in English and when I received it, it was a photocopy. Anyway, that won't affect most people and I have to say I am very impressed with the camera so far. I owned a Canon G3 which was excellent and couldn't see the need to upgrade to a DSLR. Well, now I have, I wonder why I never did earlier. ALthough I am a newbie into the world of DSLR's, this camera is very simple to use, which is fantastic as there is so much else to learn in the world of photography. I wanted a good mid range camera that would help me along as I learnt and grew in confidence in my pictures. I would heartily recommend this camera, and if it was a woman and I wasn't already attached, I would marry it! Read more Less

    Nice Entry Level

By Denise B  Mar 16, 2009 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

    Pros: Very Light Weight

Cons: Very Noisy in Low Light

This is the perfect all around carry camera with out going into the next level. For a budget friendly, easy to use, good range of variables this camera is top. However I am not happy with many low light and esp if I use a circular polarizer some imag...es are very noisy. If you travel or just enjoy photography this is the perfect solution. From here the cameras just get heavier and therefore become much more cumbersome on a trip to hand hold. For a professional camera I would go up a couple notches. If you are even thinking of going pro. go for the higher end. I would recommend this camera to everyone. Good Luck and enjoy. Read more Less

    NICELY CRAFTED CAMERA

By Michael  Nov 5, 2008 | 4 out of 4 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Ease of use, even idiots can take wonderful pics with this one

Cons: Live view mode is a pain in the rear

My 3rd. DSLR, 1st.one being Nikon D200, followed by Can Xti (350D), and now this Xsi (450D). Image quality if far superior than my previous models. Very easy to use. For me, I wouldn't go for D40 since the difference is in the body structure whil...e pic quality is same. I prefer light and compact model if quality is same. Read more Less

    Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSI

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 23, 2008 | 5 out of 7 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Good image quality, lots of features

Cons: AF doesn't work in live view mode, some manual features difficult to find/use

Very solid camera, larger screen makes using manual features easier. The live view mode needs work, but all the other features work just fine. Larger, brighter screen works well in low light and sensor cleaning feature is great. Better than the XTI.

Excellent intro to the world of DSLR

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 18, 2009 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Easy for a beginner to use but if you want to get a little more serious about photography, it has the features to facilitate that.

Cons: None so far, and I've been using it daily for about 5 months now.

I have been into photography for quite a while but only as a beginner, using a high-end point and shoot. Gradually I had lost interest in photography. This camera brought back my love of photography. The Xsi is easy to use as a beginner and get grea...t pictures. But if you should want to go a little deeper and learn more about photography, this camera has the features to allow you to do it. I can't recommend this camera enough. Also consider getting a good UV filter for your lens and a tripod. Canon makes a few remote shutter release switches as well which make shooting long exposures a breeze. Read more Less

    Xsi is a good camera

By Chari  Jun 29, 2008 | 2 out of 2 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: easy to use and learn functions

Cons: wish the image quality was a little bit better

This camera is definitely better than the XTI. But I have found that the price I paid for my XSI, I could have bought a 40D for a hundred or so more. My advice is to spend a lil more money for the 40D. If your budget doesn't permit, than the XSI ...will be a good choice. Read more Less

    Don't replace your 350D!

By NeilV  Feb 28, 2009 | 2 out of 3 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Bundled 'image stabliser' lens a big plus!

Cons: very noisy image in low light

Being a proud user of the Canon 350D for years, I bought the 450D, skipping the 400D, My big issues with the 450D over the 350D is noise, very noisy in low light, the two models older canon 350D was much better in low light, in fact mostly 'noise... free'! If you own a 350D and do low light & flash photography, don't replace it with the 450D! Read more Less

    A Good Solid Deal

By Gabriel G  Jun 14, 2008 | 1 out of 2 found this Canon EOS Rebel XSi review helpful

Pros: Relatively Cheap, Part of The EOS Series So You Can Upgrade, Great Features

Cons: LiveView Not THat Good, Manual Mode Controls Are Confusing And Slow

This is a great semi-pro camera, it is compatible with all the EOS lenses and is a good solid camera. It is reliable and very pretty. As with alot of Canons, it seems to have been built just for Auto modes and is not incredibly manual friendly. A gen...erally good camera. Read more Less
