    Ok i know i'm beginning to sound like a canon groupie..I got this camera at its launch by canon becuse i have been and continue to be impressed by my XT. I must say Canon has hit the mark.. the picture quality is above excellent, expecially when ...used with canons 50mm lens (for portraits) The speed on this one seems a tad bit faster than my xt (probably due to the larger sensor) its light weight so i can use it all day without getting tired. the 2.5 lcd has put the icing on the cake. it will turn off when you rais the camera to shoot then back on when away from the eye. (this can be manually turned off, if you want) one thing though, i really havent hd much experience with the dust cleaning system since i take care of my cameras and equipment. Other than that if your looking for a fast easy to use slr consider this one..if the price is too much for you consider its sibling, the xt..either way you cant go wrong.. oh..for those who complain about the size.. try getting the battery grip.. ads volume and weight..but a nice touch..especially for portriat shooting Read more Less

    Pros: Easy, intuitive, very powerful, great dust-remover

    Cons: ISO is limited to 1600 max, "warm" pictures at times

    The EOS 400D owns some very useful and innovative features, like a perfect dust-remover (superior to the Olympus), a high megapix value (10,2) and a very good responsiveness. 9 point focus is a nice feature as well. The quality of the images is extre...mely good, but some things can be improved. Portraits get a very warm colouring and need slight corrections for press-usage, more WB options by default would be welcomed (can be set manually though), as well as an iso range above 1600 (for night panorama or theater pictures). Apart from that, the 400D is a very powerful and highly recommended camera. The compatibility with older EOS equipment is a nice addon. It can use EF and EFS lenses and is still compatible with the Speedlite 380X. Nice surprise. I recommend to use the camera together with the BG-E3 battery grip, which makes the camera much more comfortable to use. Read more Less

    Pros: Image Quality, Price, Lens Options

    Pros: 1. Image Quality. Before I purchased the XTi, I owned a Nikon D80 (purchased with the Nikon Lens Kit). The D80 always seemed to underexpose, regardless of the lighting situation. I purchased the XTi w/ Lens Kit, and glad I did. The images are s...harp, bright, and clear every time. 2. The price. The XTi was a few hundred dollars cheaper. This is nice; it keeps your wallet in your pant pocket, rather than being blown off into space. 3. Lens options. Canon made the XTi backward compatible with Canon’s lenses. This is a nice feature, because you can find lenses (Canon, Tamron, Sigma, etc) readily available just about anywhere these days. The Nikon D80 was compatible with only certain lenses, and wasn’t backward compatible. Cons: 1. No Spot Meter. This is a feature that you would use once you became familiar with photography. Even when I used the Nikon D80, I rarely used Spot Metering. It’s basically used for when your shooting a subject that’s backlit. 2. The XTi does not have the capability to act as the Master to wireless fire a flash unit. You will have to purchase Canon's Speedlite 580ex (or similar), which is a few hundred dollars itself, to act as the Master, and either more 580's or 430ex's (which means even more money) to act as slaves. The D80 had the ability to act as the Master and fire slaves off, all wireless. This is one major drawback that Canon should have added to their XTi. Preference: 1. Camera Body. One of the big debates about the XTi is the body being too small. While I somewhat agree, the D80 was too big for me. I found myself leaving it behind because I didn’t want to lug it around. The XTi is the total opposite for me. It’s light enough for me to carry around, but produces great 10.2MP images. I know we could all continue the Nikon v. Canon, but for me, I’m very pleased with the Canon (over the Nikon). I also don’t want this to be a D80 v. XTi review, but since they are often compared to each other (and you as the reader may be on the fence on which to go with), I thought I would include my opinions. In the end, it’s the photographer that takes the picture, not the camera. Read more Less

    Pros: Awesome features, great pics, easy to use.

    Cons: Software not Vista ready, no spot metering.

    My first DSLR after a lot of research. I have to say I am very impressed - especially for the price. A natural progression from the allready excellent 350D and as such hard to fault - in fact the only con I could find was no spot metering, a fetaure ...I'd expect to pay a lot more for. You see, the camera is so good you instantly start comparing it to models way out of its range. I think Canon have done an excellent job - although I am still waiting (48hrs) for a reply from their support about Vista compatibility: the camera is recognised by the OS but the bundled apps fail to communicate with it. Something I am sure will be ironed out in the very near future as Vista becomes more widespread. Read more Less

    The only one drawback I feel needs attention on this camera is it's size. It's a little small for those of us with larger hands. I'm used to an A2e to it's a little tiny for me. Otherwise I've been very pleased with it overall.

    Cons: Small framed body (a plus for smaller hands), no Image stabilization built in,

    I highly recommend this camera for the person looking for their first DSLR or even as a back up. For the price, you get a camera that has the same amount of control as the next step up but for a lot less money. Matter of fact, the shutter is faster o...ver the 30D. I do enjoy the light body frame which is due to the plastic body. Hiking all day with it has been a pleasure and neck strain is minimal to none. Check out the popular Photo magazines as their reviews are starting to show up and so far everyone have written positive reviews about this Canon Model. I have talked to Canon support by email and Phone about questions including one issue. I cannot say enough about their support. 1) English speaking and informatiive 2) Very fast response times when emailing 3) They also took the time to make sure you have everything under control. In other words, they did not rush you off the phone. I will say this, I wish they had more service centers around the Nation. They only have two. Read more Less

    I love this camera. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but for the price it's great. Even the Nikon, which was more expensive barely edged out the 400D in the reviews I've read and most of that comes down to nit picking. The most... common complaints I've seen about this camera are the grip size and build quality. Unless you want to pay a lot more deal with the fact that it's plastic. It doesn't feel cheap. It just isn't a metal housing. The specs I could find on it said it was made from ABS. ABS is a tough plastic and most anything in your kitchen, tool box and on your car made from plastic is made from ABS. As for the grip being small, yeah I can see that. But you can pick up the vertical grip/battery holder that will give your pinkie somewhere to sit if you really need it. I don't have small hands, but I really don't notice the grip being small. Probably because I end up holding the lens with my other hand. It does lean towards underexposure, but you can compensate with an exposure adjustment or work with it later in photo shop. It also does tend to produce a warm picture. Once again, photo shop. I highly recommend shooting in RAW. Over all this camera kicks some serious @$$ Read more Less

    Pros: I loved the detail proveded with this camera, even if I am not using a zoom lense, the detail is high enough to zoom in via the computor and crop it.

    Cons: The only con I can think of is the price: geat value for the cost, but sill expensive.

    I shoot outdoor photos and this camera is great for it. I have not run into any problems that are not easily and quickly fixed. All in all, a great camera.

    Pros: Intuative beyond belief

    Cons: A bit small for a SLR. Can be awkward for us left eye folks.

    This really is one hell of a camera. I've used an EOS film camera in the past and didn't really get on with it. Preferred my old Pentax. This is a different beast! You really can't argue with this camera. It has everything a non-pro could... ever need. 10 meg RAW files are amazing. The only down side, and it's not a big one, is its size. It's too small. Buy the battery grip! Its standard colour settings are a bit on the cold side but they are adjustable. In closing. If you've never used a SLR before, give this a try. If you have and unless you can afford a 5D or 1D (about the price of a small car!) then the 400D is worth some serious attention. As you can probably tell, I quite like it! Read more Less

    The camera is brilliant but why do we have to pay double the price in the UK? This camera is half the price in the USA

    It works out cheaper to fly out to the States and buy the camera there.
