Pros: All Features, Quality, Ease of use, MegaPix, etc!
Cons: Camera should have been made with a full frame sensor!
Amature-Pro photographer - I have been using Canon equipment for about 10 years and would never give it up. Upon turning on the Canon 50D the camera begins to auto clean the sensor but by pressing the shutter button half way you can begin taking photos in less than one second! At just over 6 frames per second whether your shooting a model with her hair blowing in the wind or a golfer swinging his club you will not miss any of the action! The noise reduction feature also works very well when you need to increase the ISO speed for those low lighting moments or places where flashes are not welcomed. The Canon 50D can handle EF and the newer EF-S Lenses alike! With very reliable auto settings, full manual capabilities and with most of the features that the top of the line cameras posses the Canon 50D is an awesome camera for it's price!
Pros: Best Camera
Cons: Wish I was ready for it sooner
I spent my time learning on a couple of pro-consumer cameras. I told myself I would not invest in my first DSLR until I actually learn my cameras, what they can and can not do, and why.
I am so glad I chose the Canon EOS 50D as my first DSLR. It gives me plenty of room to grow before I am ready to upgrade.
Time to invest in glass :)
Pros: quality, lens offerings from canon, kit lens, rugged build, amazing lcd screen
Cons: not the simplest camera in the world, 1.6x magnification ratio
i use this camera every day as a commercial photographer as well as very often outside of my job. it performs spectacularly in every application i've put it to. it took me a little while to adjust from a 20D but it's definitely worth the switch. incredible LCD screen, such better resolution than even the 40D's screen. 28-135 lens is sharp and a solid performer despite annoying lens creep and play in the zoom. instantaneous power-up. i love the user settings, it makes it very convenient to dial in my go-to settings. i love this camera.
Pros: AF, Hi ISO Capability, FPS, IQ, Ergonomics
Cons: I have zero complaints about this piece of equipment.
Talk about a really nice camera? If you are looking for a really good all around camera that isn't' going to break the bank like the 5DII and 1D Series, the 50D is just the ticket. Excellent AF system (especially in Ai Servo), outstanding IQ, fantastic dynamic range. You name it, this baby's got it. The build is solid, and the weight balances out large L quality glass (especially with the battery grip attached). I also like the location of the controls on the 50D. Very intuitive! Shooting in Manual mode is as easy as 1,2,3. Overall this is just a very well designed camera! I have no complaints, but if I were forced to say something negative I would say that the RAW files are quite large. That being said, it doesn't slow the buffer down at all. I can usually run off about 15-20 shots in a row before the buffers gets a little clogged.
Pros: Resolution, Features, ISO Exspansion
Cons: Heavyweight - But Worth it !
I used to use a Rebel XT. I was in the market for a new camera and I found the 50D on the Canon website. After a lot of research, I went to look at the product. At first I was taken aback by the weight of the unit, but after weighing that against the features etc. I bought one (it took some time to find one available - they sell out fast)and am so very happy I did.
Pros: It's a great camera... there are a lot of pros... my favorite being the ISO capabilities
Cons: I haven't come across them yet.
My first D-SLR was a Canon Rebel Xti. I really got a lot of good use out of that camera but as I grew in my knowledge of how to work an SLR I started running into it's limitations. I needed versatile ISO capabilities. I went with the 40D first, to try and save a few bucks and the reviews were FANTASTIC, but my experience with the 40D was not so glorious. I decided to return it while I still could and just go ahead and get the 50D. I haven't regretted it. Such a superb camera.
Pros: Auto ISO, faster AF, greater ISO range at 1/3 stops, build, various speed modes for shooting
Cons: Slow focus on Live viw
I bought the 400D (XTi) about three years ago and I was looking to upgrade. When I heard the 50D was coming out with a new Digic processor I decided to hold off on buying the 40D until I could get my hands on the 50D.
I am very happy with the purchase and it keep me shooting for years to come as I build my lens collection
Pros: Fast Focus, Rapid Fire Shutter, Easy to use, bang on crisp images
Cons: None
I have been using a Canon EOS 20D for almost 3 years now and was just about to upgrade to the 40D this past summer when I heard that the 50D was coming out in October. I patiently waited and have to say that it was worth it! This camera is a major upgrade over the 20D. Controls are roughly the same as the 20, 30 and 40D so it was real easy to switch over. Focus is much faster and the image quality is superb using my Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6. The light readings are much more accurate in the 50, I would have to drop my 20D about 2/3 a stop to compensate for overexposure. Not so with this camera. I love the Auto ISO option and the ability to shoot in RAW in any setting.
Pros: Sharp, clear photos...
Cons: small multi-selector wheel
I was spoiled by my XSi, which I loved and swore by. Someone gave me the 50D for my birthday and when taking it out of the box I complained about half a dozen things and thought I would never get used to it. After working with it for about an hour, it became an extension of my hands and now I don't think I could do without it. Even though it weighs considerably more than the XSi, it is comfortable and well balanced.
