The EOS 20D is the semi-professional digital SLR to deliver all the speed, precision and flexibility synonymous with high-end film SLR cameras - plus a whole lot more.

A rugged magnesium alloy body provides the first clue that the EOS 20D is no ordinary camera. Canon's award-winning CMOS technology delivers outstanding image quality and 8.2 Megapixel resolution. The DIGIC II architecture drives blistering 5fps continuous shooting with a maximum burst of 23 frame JPEG images, class-leading color rendition accuracy, quick start-up times and rapid display and zooming of images during in-camera review. JPEG and RAW files write simultaneously with no loss of performance.

9 auto focus points are carefully distributed across a wide area of the frame for fast, accurate focusing, even with off-center subjects and particularly with 'rule-of-thirds' compositions.

The E-TTL distance-linked flash algorithm takes factors such as lens distance information and ambient light readings into account for accurate flash metering, even in circumstances such as recomposed shots, or where high or low reflective objects appear in the frame. The camera is compatible with the entire EX-series Speedlite flash range. This includes the 580EX, which transmits color temperature information for improved color stability and auto zooms to match the camera's APS-C sensor size.

The EOS 20D is compatible with more than 60 Canon EF lenses, including Canon's EF-S lenses. Built with the EOS 20D photographer in mind, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM and EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM cover popular wide (approx. 16-35mm) and standard (approx. 27-136mm) ranges in the 35mm equivalent.

An extreme high (3200 ISO) setting extends the camera's wide 100-1600 ISO speed range. Both sRGB and Adobe RGB color spaces are supported. Digital Photo Professional image processing software permits high-speed processing of lossless RAW files.

The EOS 20D's USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection enables fast download of images to the computer. PictBridge compliant, the camera supports direct printing to any compatible photo printer. It takes both CF and CF-II cards, including cards of over 2GB capacity.

    Pros: Quality, capability, ease of use, image stabilization, data verification for law enforcement

    Cons: Price. No way to charge the battery in the camera.

    All of my co-workers are jealous. This is a phenomenal law enforcement surveillance camera. It starts up quickly, focuses quickly and with the right lenses takes amazing pictures. I was five stories up shooting through a slightly dirty window and ...could pull plates off of moving cars at 1 and a half blocks away. With 8 mega pixels you can take the shot of stuff you can't distinguish then zoom in on the LCD or later via computer. The Image Stabilization lenses are about double regular lenses in price and the number of good pictures you end up with. It becomes very helpful in low light and for moving subjects. The predictive auto focusing is slightly better than Minolta SLRs. Canon makes an image verification kit for law enforcement to prove the image has not been altered - Very cool for chain of evidence and authenticity issues. Do not play with this camera in a store unless you have $2000+ to spend on it and the IS lenses. Be weary buying this camera online... check to see if that great price is offered by a reputable dealer by looking on the Canon website under where to buy. Professional photographers be ware, armatures can encroach with this camera. Buy the high speed compactflash and you may be able to increase the max burst-at-one-time to 30+ on high resolution and infinite on low res. Also, the included software is very powerful, stiching photos together to make panoramics actually is very easy and works well. Read more Less

    Pros: Easy to use!!!

    Cons: Be attentive to errors!!

    Camera is sold with a Basic Lense from Canon, which is ok if you are novice like me! You can eventually purchase lenses according to your needs, just make sure they fit the camera! ..The camera is absolutely gorgeous!! I'm a girl, and I find it e...asy to handle, I understand that there are components that make this camera work efficiently, so therefore it might have some weight...about a pound or so.., but is bearable! If you cannot handle the weight, get a strap around your neck..or a tripod, is that simple! The CAMERA is worth every penny!! If you are a rookie or have been doing Photography for a while, you will love the quality of your pictures! My best advice is to read the handbook (for those who are new in the field!), so you can appreciate the features better, and enjoy the camera to the fullest..., and of course, you will become better at taking pictures!! I enjoy every moment with my camera, and the results are shown in my pictures! If you are thinking about purchasing this camera, just make sure you buy it with the Canon Lens.., there are several vendors that are selling the whole kit with inferior lenses! Read the item description ALWAYS!If you need to, visit the CANON website for more information, and tips! OVERALL The Camera is just fenomenal!     The bottom line: With 8-megapixel resolution, excellent image quality, reduced noise at high ISO settings, robust shooting performance, accurate AF, responsive Continuous AF, and improved ergonomics, there's a lot to like about the 20D. Canon has certainly set a new benchmark for what an enthusiast dSLR should be, and the under-$1500 20D even encroaches on the performance envelope of the professional camera's produced by some of Canon's competitors! Those in the market for a high-quality enthusiast dSLR, whether migrating from film or upgrading from consumer digicams, should place the 20D at the top of their short list. Users of the Digital Rebel and 10D may find the 20D's improvements sufficient to justify its purchase, especially sports shooters who will benefit from its improved AF and burst performance and reduced noise at high ISO settings.
