Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II Digital Camera !!!

By __A_YAHOO_USER__  Apr 4, 2006 | 3 out of 3 found this Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II review helpful

    Pros: ...

    Cons: ...

Canon has held a commanding position at the high end of the professional SLR market, ever since they introduced the original EOS-1D in late 2001. The full-frame 11-megapixel EOS-1Ds was likewise a breakthrough product when announced in 2002. In late ...2004 though, the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II set a new standard for ultimate resolution in a full-frame 35mm-format digital SLR. Carrying over a host of improvements and innovations from the 1D Mark II, the EOS-1Ds Mark II improves image quality and performance over the original 1Ds, while at the same time raising the resolution to an incredible 16.7 megapixels. No other camera currently on the market comes close to matching the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II for its combination of resolution and shooting speed, and (as of this writing in September 2005), Canon is the only manufacturer offering digital SLRs with full frame 35mm sensors. Read on for all the details, this is one amazing digital camera! Read more Less

    !DSMK2

By Frank  Dec 11, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II review helpful

Pros: Dpendable/Fast/Good dynamic range/Great batterylife/Full frame-lenses work like they are supposed to.

    Cons: none

I went from an A1 film to a 10d and finally to the 1DSMK2. I Gave up hope of being able to use my FD lenses when I purchased the 10D. With the 1Ds I can see why it would have been futile to do so.With full frame sensor even the EOS line of "L&qu...ot; class lenses are at their limit with this body. There are endless amounts of settings to be mastered with this body. No onboard flash and it is not missed thank you very much I like low light handheld special effect photography and with this body and my current set of lenses that is possible. On another note, this body along with lets say an 85f1.2 can be used in self defense, It has weight and I have no problem with that. Read more Less

    It's a Great Camera but...

By j  Nov 27, 2006 | 2 out of 4 found this Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II review helpful

Pros: Quite a few; one of the best high-end SLRs on the market.

Cons: Problems focusing in low light situations, lots of noise at higher than 100 ISOs.

The Mark II is a great camera overall, but has problems focusing (both on your lens' autofocus, as well as manual) in low light situations. We've contacted Canon about this problem as we've noted it in several bodies, with multiple manufa...cturer's lenses, in both RAW and jpg formats and they refuse to acknowledge the issue. We think it's a problem with the way the camera's internal software is processing data. Great in the light--if you're shooting in the dark and have the budget (!), go for a Phase One back & Hassie instead. Ultimately, not many other pro 35 SLRs come close to the quality and features of the Mark II. Read more Less

Pros: Strong built, Perfect quality shots

    Cons: None so far

Am amazing DSLR for every situation. I own this camera for over 3 years now and after more than 230000 shots it has never failed me. Luscious files from this 16mp chip

By Neil Cowley  Feb 17, 2008

Pros: big gorgeous files - real Depth of Field

    Cons: big files to download/manage

I love my 1Ds and the big files. The files are a lot to deal with. Wish-list would include a larger on-camera buffer for a better burst rate, but instead the 1Ds MIII seems to just go for more resolution. I hope Canon pulls out a 35mm chip with 14mp... super low noise and a 10 frame buffer. That would be my dream camera as a photojournalist. Read more Less
