For dramatic mid-action shots, the EOS 1000D allows continuous shooting of large JPEG images at speeds of up to 3 frames per second, until the memory card is full. With a card, this lets you shoot up to 514 images without a pause.

A wide-area Auto Focus system uses 7 separate focusing points to lock onto subjects fast. The central focus point enables focusing even under low-light or low-contrast conditions.

Canon's built-in dust prevention system guards images against the effects of dust in three ways: reducing dust generated inside the camera, shaking dust from the sensor each time the camera is turned on or off, and mapping stubborn dust spots for removal with the provided Digital Photo Professional software.

    Pros: Easy to use, easy to navigate, live view, high res, long battery life

    Cons: kit lens is disappointing

    Canon makes great cameras, I can't see myself buying another brand. This thing is built like a tank but not too heavy. I considered buying another Powershot for portability and was seriously looking at the G10. I was able to get this Rebel XS for... only fifty bucks more, and it is a world of difference better when it comes to image noise due to its MUCH larger sensor, but also very portable -- the smallest Rebel ever. I am disappointed with the kit lens, it is a bit slower than I was expecting, but the IS feature is great! Canon should ship this camera with the EF 50mm f/1.8 to add serious punch right out of the box. If you own this camera and don't yet have this prime lens, go get it, it's super cheap and a perfect addition for crystal clear portraits and much better bokeh. This step-down from the XSi loses two auto-focus points and has a smaller LCD, and no spot metering. For the price difference, these are small concessions. I'm VERY happy with my purchase!     Pros: live view, easy to use, long battery life

    Cons: need fast lens for the clearest pictures

    This is my first DSLR, and so far I love it. The battery life is really long, and I rarely have to charge it. The picture quality is clear as long as you have a fast, solid lens.
