Doc (Nolte) is a marine biologist who just moved to Cannery Row, a rustic oceanside village. Before long, he discovers that the only local entertainment is the brothel. That's where he meets Suzy (Winger)--a spunky, husky-voiced wanderer--who makes Doc's life on the Row a whole lot brighter. But before long their romance turns sour.     Pros: Brilliant Cast, well written, acted and narated

    Cons: not on DVD

    A stunning and hilarious cast of outcasts on Cannery Row. Narrated by John Huston. I measure the greatness of a movie by the number of scenes that jump into my memory over the years. There are simply too many absolutely stunning, hilarious, touching,... and brilliant scenes in this movie to review or even recall all of them, however here are a few: Mac and the Boys, the beer milkshake, the frog round-up, $2 for my sick aunt, the "dance-off", the Bear-Flag restaurant..."we don't serve that many sandwiches here", the psychic prediction to be the president, the new dress, the "see-er", baby octopi, the new microscope, the costume party, how to set a table for dinner, and on and on. A stunningly wonderful movie comparable to FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (without most of the heart break) . Highly, Highly recommended. Read more Less

    A funny romantic flick!

    First time that I saw this movie was about 10 years ago and I totally loved it. It's basically about two people who are in love with each other, but it takes them the whole movie to really find it out. You have two powerfull actors combining wits and... humor with each other, the beautiful Debra Winger and the solid boisterous Nick Nolte. Believe me, between them and the wonderful cast, it makes a movie worth having next to Forrest Gump in your collection. Read more Less
