Firstperson shooter enthusiasts are drafted back to the European theatre of World War II, in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, the followup to 2004's successful Call of Duty: Finest Hour. As many reallife veterans and history buffs will recognize, the sequel's subtitle is an affectionate name for the United States Army's most decorated division, First Infantry. Players take the role of a soldier among its ranks. In addition to a vigorous campaign that leads them past grim landmarks of wartorn Europe and Northern Africa, players are given an opportunity for some light roleplaying, as the game's story encourages them to bond with their fellow soldiers. This sense of trust may even carry over to the battlefield, where communication and cooperation are critical. As in an actual firefight, blindly storming an enemy location with guns blazing is seldom the best way to win battles in Call of Duty 2, but enhanced squad commands allow wise soldiers outmaneuver nearly any opponent, through tactics and teamwork. ~ T.J. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One

    Pros: Everything

Cons: Not long enough / Not enough missions

This game rocked, the sound effects actually put you in the WWII era. If you are a first person shooter fan, you will love this game. My only question: Would this game have been easier to control (the gun site) on home PC? My assumtions would be yes,... mainly because of the mouse control for the sights. In this game you use the right analog stick, depending on your personal playing skills, this may not be a problem at all; however, I found it to be less than easy. Other than that, this game kept me busy for approx 7 hours before beating it, I wish it had more missions. Enjoy!! Read more Less

Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (Collector's Edition)

Pros: Constant Action, never a dull moment.

Cons: Missions were too easy, even on hard.

Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (Collector's Edition), followed the guideline of its previous series. The action was always intense and there was never any rest. The graphics were standard PS2 so little review there. As for soound, the weapon's so...und effects I found disappointing because it felt like I was shooting a BB-Gun all the time, in comparsion to the the PC versions I have played. However, the constant machine gun, yelling, and mortar fire left you in the sphere of war which was fantastic. The control was average, nice reaction time yet a little frustrating to be aiming with a controller than a mouse. The physics needed to be changed drastically because all I ever did was charge at enemy soldiers with the melee attack, one-hit kill---even online this is a burden. The extra content of the Collector's edition did satisfy since, it brings you so much behind the story except for the map reviews since the authors talked very little of the map's secrets or style of play. Just how cool it was and how they wanted it to look like, very dull. However, its real markup value relies on the multiplayer, which sometimes lags with full servers, but a nice game of 8 players goes pretty well. Overall, the game was fun, yet I found it too easy at times, but overall the game provides what you would expect from the Call of Duty series. Read more Less
