    The sole LP issued on Motown's shortlived Weed imprint, CC Rides Again is an utterly misguided attempt to recast blueeyed soul sister Chris Clark as a freakflagflying, flowerpower femmeit's a shame the resulting LP is so completely square, undermining Clark's impassioned, soulful vocals with trite covers and tepid, softfocus arrangements. The project's failure rests squarely on the shoulders of producer Deke Richards, who not only saddles Clark with illfitting material like "Good Morning Starshine" and "Spinning Wheel" but further burdens the singer with absurdly pretentious flourishes including orchestral themes from thencurrent films like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet. Only the deeply soulful opener "CC Rider" hints at what might have beenhad the stars aligned differently, CC Rides Again could have launched Clark to the same creative stratum occupied by Dusty Springfield's classic Dusty in Memphis, but instead the record proved the final nail in the coffin of a career th...at deserved far better. - Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide Read more Less
