Synopsis: Bugsy Malone (1976)
Synopis: In this unique mobster movie, Scott Baio heads up a prepubescent cast as the title character, a child gangster determined to rule over New York City. Instead of throwing fists or bullets, the Prohibition-era kiddie mobsters sling confections at one another. When Bugsy learns that a rival gang has developed a secret weapon capable of firing sweets as quick as a machine gun shoots bullets, he sets out to heist the high-tech tart-launcher.BUGSY MALONE, director Alan Parker's first feature, cleverly spoofs the rich, cliché-ridden history of films about organized crime while lightly mocking the childlike, selfish traits of grown-ups. The engaging silliness is periodically spirited forward by several song-and-dance numbers composed by bubblegum pop maestro Paul Williams.Features: Bugsy Malone (1976)

A Delightful Musical
, January 4, 2000Reviewer: Shamrock - See all Shamrock's reviewsOne of Alan Parkers best musicals ever that was brought to life onscreen by a then young Scott Baio and Jodie Foster along with a cast of very young talented kids dressed as gangsters and dancers. A film dealing with the violent issue of prohibiton and gangster activity of the 1920's and 30's in a way that made this film a possible G rated movie. The most visible difference of course being the classic Tommy Gun firing cream pies instead of bullets making this a film as different as it's time.A most deserving Oscar nomination going to the music that year for best musical score made this film a movie for the ages. Along with Parker's Pink Floyd 's The Wall, Bugsy Malone falls in my top 5 musicals of all time. I recommend Bugsy Malone or any of Alan parkers many other films such as The Wall or Evita. ...

Pros: Great family movie
Cons: Can't buy on DVD to watch
I loved Bugsy as a kid, first saw it while I was growing up in Southern California. With in the last year, I have thought about the movie and how much I think my 7 1/2 year old son would like it. The little cars they drive around in is sure to get his automotive attention. Those "cream pies" to the face, I can hear him laughing about it already. I loved this movie as a kid and as a parent, I can't wait to show it to my children. I hope it comes out of DVD soon for me to purchase. ...
