| EXPERT RATING: From AMG Reviews A nice look into contemporary Spanish pop/rock. The exceptionally multi-instrumental Julieta Venegas provides a number of tracks powered mainly by her outstanding voice, but with enough ornamentation by the rest of the instruments to allow quite a sound to emerge. The songs occasionally sound a bit like some of the (semi) later Cardigans' work, but nonetheless, it's quite good. Her voice can occasionally be drowned out a bit by the guitars and organs, but it always comes back to the forefront within a short time. This is really contemporary Spanish pop at its best. It's not the basic ballad/bubblegum pop that becomes a huge hit in the U.S., but that's part of what makes it so much better. If you're curious as to the sounds available in the rest of the Latin spectrum, pick up this album for a listen. - Adam Greenberg, All Music Guide |
