Based on the Bram Stoker Award nominee short story by acclaimed author Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-tep tells the “true” story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis(Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his “death”, then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack(Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds…

Pros: Bruce Campbell, Ossie Davis, Original Story

Cons: Don't learn much about other characters.

It was tough to keep from laughing so hard that I incurred some major internal injury watching "Bubba Ho-Tep". Definitely hilarious and intriguing, this release is one of the best off-the-wall offerings I've seen in a while. Many have... been coming out of the woodwork since Quentin Tarantino's rise to "god-hood" in some eyes, and most independent offerings now seem to be all about the surreal accessories as opposed to actual substance that gives you a different perspective or a new reality to consider."Bubba Ho-Tep" accomplishes these in a smooth, well-delivered style. Unlike "Scary Movie 3" which had humor where jokes were "forced" to be funny as opposed to "allowing" them to be funny, Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis created a well-oiled machine of humor and fantasy that worked superbly. My only complaint for the film is that we aren't given more insight concerning other characters at the home. We are only allowed one chance meeting with Helen Martmouth's character and then she's gone forever. I think the story would have also benefitted from learning more about Elvis'/Haff's nurse. We aren't given much to go on with the mummy, and in this instance, we don't need it. We learn enough to keep the plot moving and, considering the shape he's in, I don't think he's up for a rousing Shakespearean soliloquy explaining how he came to be where he is. That would be superfluous. The extras are entertaining and give us more bang for our buck. The movie is worth purchasing without them, but something extra for your hard earned cash is always a plus. Why

Pros: Bruce Campbell is amazing. I could barely recognize him

Cons: It was just stupid. For shame Bruce. For Shame.

This is more of a rant then a review. I really don't get why this movie was made. Yes Bruce is cool and his character was hillarious, but it had such a cheesy feel and quality to it. I just don't get it at all. It has an original storyline, b...ut other than that there isn't anything redeeming about this movie. There a few good lines and moments and Bruce is unrecognizable. If I watched it without knowing it was Bruce then there is no way I could have known it was him. Besides the credits of course. He is that good at playing his character.I don't know really...........I just didn't feel it.Go check it out just for Bruces performance. Don't expect the Last Samurai. I actually love bad movies, but this is just pointless. Read more Less
