Good Fax and Printer for the Price

    By steve  Apr 5, 2008

    Pros: Easy to use Fax

Cons: Getting stuck paper out of the machine

I hav not experienced any of the problems stated in other reviews. I bought mine on sale at office max about 1 year ago for $99.00. With the exception of 2 or 3 difficult to correct paper jams this is by far the best machine I've used in my small office for faxing and document printing. Would buy Brother over others I've owned including Lexmark and numerous HP's. If you use ink refill kits they are easy to use on this machine. I am buying a MFC-465CN again $99.00 for my satalite office. This one seems to have better reviews.

    Problems false Ink Displays

    By Ralf  Dec 9, 2007

    Pros: ease of Use

Cons: Noise, Paper jams, print quality

Had this MFC-440CN printer just over one year, purchased Nov. 22, 2006, two days ago all ink cartridge indications dropped, colors to just 20% and the black stated empty, printer locked, call Brother technical, if you use non original cartridge you are on your own, no warranty. They said buy ours and it will work again, spend $35 for black cartridge, DID NOT WORK, printer toast!!! Original store (Staples) where purchased not interested to help, out of warranty by 2 weeks, they stated I should have bought extended warranty.

Went to BestBuy, bought a fully functional LexMark Wi Fi unit X6570 and asked them about the problem with Brother printer, they would give a repair estimate and estimate quote for a small fee ($39). They are not keen on Brother and carry just a few units.

From all my printers over the past 20 years NONE gave me the problems that the Brother did, Epson, Lexmark and ribbon units all worked.

Stay away from Brother jetink printers (my opinion and experience)

Follow-up to previous message, uninstalled my network setup of the Brothers full software package, re-installed using the USB option, printer then accepted the cartridges and showed proper full ink BUT within 10 minutes the levels dropped to near empty again. Downloaded newest firmware from Brothers for the MFC-440CN and installed, no change. Removed all the cartridges, the printer still showed “near empty” for all 4 cartridges and still printed. replaced cartridges no change. I give up.

The Lexmark scans and prints much quieter and is faster, however, I liked the Brother face plate and interface better.

    Time to move on.

When through 4 without printing a page

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 16, 2007 | 0 out of 1 found this Brother MFC-440CN review helpful

Pros: Looks nice and has fax, copy, scan, print

Cons: Couldn't get 4 to work! Scanner doesn't work

We bought the first one online from Costco. when installed, the scan bar goes across the screen and acts like it is stuck. We call Brother support. They said it was the machine and they would send out a new one. New one came fast! Same issue, so we took one back to Costco and the other we shipped back to Brother. Went to best buy, thought we would try again. Same exact issue. Customer service wanted us to take it in to get repaired. Sorry, I do not want to buy a brand new print and take it to get fixed before I have ever used it. Took it back to BB to get an HP, but they were out of the HP, so we picked up another Brother. SAME EXACT ISSUE AGAIN! So this time, we will get an HP for sure. I am amazed that we went through 4 units and they all had the same problem.

Great pics when you can get the paper in it!

By KatherineL  Jun 12, 2007 | 4 out of 5 found this Brother MFC-440CN review helpful

    Pros: Pic quality

Cons: Can't get the darn paper tray open

I've owned a lot of cheap printers and this one is by far the best quality. You can't even tell the prints apart from the ones I buy from online vendors.
However, I have problems getting open the paper tray! It just doesnt slide out! I have to pull and tug and UGH!
