Mavis Beacon is a very good way to teach your childern how to type. It helps them with all the keys on the keyboard. I have learned how to type faster and it is much more easier. Mavis Beacon is a very fun experince for childern and adults. So go out to the store today with your kids and buy Mavis Beacon. I promise it will be the best thing you could do for your kids typing skills!!!

Good typing program could be better

Pros: Graded assignments, games, nicely presented

Cons: Pacing of adding new letters is too fast

This familiar typing program has many good things about it. Since I haven't used any other typing software, I don't know how it compares, but in addition to graded lessons, it has many nice features. You can start out with a typing test to find out where to be placed, there are charts to track your progress, you can view a key board which shows you which keys you are having the most problems with and what the specific problems are, there is a fun game room with various types of games, custom lessons, and ergonomic pointers. Also several different people can use the software at the same point or you can register yourself under different names. You can also repeat lessons you've had difficulty with and skip over lessons. The biggest problem I have with this software is that new letters get introduced four at a time without a lot of drill, which I just find too difficult to absorb all at once. I think I would learn much faster if new letters were introduced one at a time or at least in pairs. I've also reached a point where the program gets "stuck". I haven't tried to get support yet for overcoming this problem, so for the time being I can't rate support. Overall a good typing program with the one caveat that I mentioned.
