Synopsis: Broadway Melody of 1940 (1940)

The class of the Broadway Melody series with the burnished talents of Astaire and Murphy, and the timeless tunes of Cole Porter. The plot, never the point of these exercises, pits two dancers in a friendly rivalry for the attentions of Powell. This was the only screen appearance together of Astaire and Powell and it makes you wish for more.

    This is probably the best dance film of the 1930's/1940's. Fred and Eleanor are fantastic in the two main dance routines. The plot is a little silly--Fred finds a gal he's crazy about and pursues her although he thinks she is crazy about his best bu...ddy. Seems Fred had that problem in several of his movies. But in the end he gets the girl and dances up a storm with her. Go get a copy. Read more Less
