But to get any enjoyment out of this film you had to strain so hard to get past the soppy emotional music and the preachy homosexual propaganda, that by the end, you had forgotten most of the storyline.
While Mario Lopez was fabulous as Louganis - don't be surprised to see him in some higher profile stuff in the future - the film's obvious intent was to elicit pity for Louganis over the hardships he had experienced and the fact that - as a result of a lifestyle choice - he is now infected with the world's most loathsome disease. I can only say that it failed in this intent.
The official review calls this an 'inspirational' story. As an athlete, yes, Greg Louganis was an inspiration, but certain decisions and choices he made were less than inspiring, and this film does the word 'inspriration' no justice whatsoever. I thought the film about Dan Janssen was much better.
Two stars, because there was no one-and-a-half option and because one star would not have been fair on Lopez. ...
