    true rock and roll

with the dominance of Bizkit-style rap-rock in the world of rock and roll the past few years, what a pleasure it was purchasing, and listening to this album by the Wallflowers. I loved Bringing Down the Horse, and hoped that Breach would also be a bi...g hit commercially, try to get back a little bit of a foothold on the charts, but it seems that for right now real rock and roll is dead. It's trying too hard to capture the rap audience that it's losing it's roots. then here you have an album that is old school folk rock. deep, soulfull lyrics, inredible instrumentals, and Jakob Dylan's voice, which is as unmistakable and enthralling as that of his legendary father. This is a group that may be the last hope from true rock and roll in a musical landsape dominated by teen pop, rap, and rap-metal sounds. Read more Less

    Please!

...pleeeease don't compare The Wallflowers with Matchbox 20 and the Goo-Goo Dolls. I hate to say it, but I feel as if The Wallflowers are one of the true rock and roll bands alive today. When I say Rock and Roll, I mean the old school style and songw...riting recipes with today's flavor. I mean, what pop band today includes the slide guitar on the bulk of their songs? Wallflowers still incorporate the slide, and one of my FAVORITES, the organ!! And they don't just use the organ as a background layer....it's used as one of the focal instruments of the band. Without Rami Jaffee, their sound is just not the same...anyway...I just wanted to put in my two cents and ask that The Wallflowers not be put in the same musical catagory as today's pop artists...In my opinion, these guys belong in comparisons with bands like The Doors and The Beatles. When Jakob Dylan first debuted with the Wallflowers, nobody expected that he would ever escape the shadow of his famous father, and those doubts hung heavily above the band until their second album, Bringing Down the Horse, became an unexpected multi-platinum smash. In light of that success, Dylan became his own man, no longer seen as only Bob's kid. That freedom is evident on the Wallflowers' superb third album, Breach. At the time of its fall 2000 release, there was a lot of attention paid to Jakob finally writing about Bob, a subject he steadfastly ignored before, and it is true that several songs do clearly acknowledge his famous father. But that's not the most noteworthy thing about the album. What's remarkable about the album is that he is assured as a songwriter and bandleader. On the surface, there's not much different between this album and its predecessor, but the songs are stronger, sharper, and the performances are lean, muscular, and immediate. Andrew Slater and Michael Pe...nn's clear, surprisingly varied production is a factor, but the credit goes to Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers; the band has never sounded better and Dylan has never been as convincing as a writer or singer. The result is the finest straight-ahead rock album of 2000. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

The Wallflowers

As part of the mid-'90s revival of roots-rock, the Wallflowers held a special connection to one of the original inspirations: vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jakob Dylan. Though he is the son of a legend, Jakob's similarities to his father are occasional -- in fact, the Wallflowers are more influenced by Tom Petty the Heartbreakers than original '60s folk-rock, though ly... Read more
