    At last! Brazil!

A very good film. Part thriller, part comedy, part action and with a heavy dose of melancholy, what a film! In a futurist world (late 20th century as it says though) where the technology is part 21st century and part 1940s, beaurocracy prevails above everything else. Some people are blamed as being part of a terrorist organization, and one beaurocrat is deeply in love with a woman in his dreams. I don't want to spoil anything so I will not go into details about the story. You just have to take my word that it is a good story.

All the technical aspects of the movie are great. The photography and the visual effects are something that are just wonderful to look at. You do believe that you are watching the reality. The music almost plays for the whole duration of the movie, like in the Star Wars movies, and it is also excellent. I know that I will look for the soundtrack as soon as I can.
Just for the movie go and watch it, rent it or buy the dvd/vhs and you will enjoy it.

Brazil will always be one of my favorite movies. It was an assigned movie for one of my college classes(a class that studied dreams - oddly an English class)
I think the development and exageration of characters and the surrealistic qualities make for a great film.

Black satire that takes 1984 and resets it in a repressive bureaucratic society dealing with terrorism. After 9/11, the satire takes on a whole new form as we watch the United States take the first steps toward the repressive state of Brazil. Terry Gilliam laces it with offbeat characters and humorous situations that make the satire palatable.

Brazil is among my favorite movies: Blade Runner, Hudsucker Proxy and Edward Scissorhand. The movie is very symbolic, exaggerating the burocratic monopolies the world divide into in future. The system rests on giants like "Information Retrieval" and "Central Services" - nothing is done without a paper being signed, everyhting is by the book. Some rebell against the system - but all they can really do is dream of freedom. Efforts of an individual are productive only inside ones' imagination.

Despite the scalistic designs, the movie creates a small isolated world. Great movie to watch after midnight with the lights off.

Now this is one of the most freakishly funny movies ever made. It's Terry Gilliam so what do you expect. Very British, the movie tells the story of the dismal life of a government worker in a "1984" future. It's about futuristic love and the folly of the human race. Robert DeNiro has a small but fantastic part as the independent non-government plummer. The camera work is also top notch.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 15, 2001

NO! But I can try. Criterion DVD is by far the best package out there! With both versions of the film (Dir. Cut) being the only one worth watching it is hard to pass up. It is also worth watching and hearing about the controvery and battle put forth by Gilliam to get his version released. Sad enough too many people have seen this movie without getting to see it in it's full glory. So many social issues are touched on and developed. Well ahead of it's time for 1985. Camera-work is stunning and jaw-dropping. Most definitly one of the greatest films ever. Sad enough it is not looked upon by many, but hopefully this review will spark more interest. GET IT!!! LOVE IT!!!

this is a desert island dvd. this directors cut only. what i mean by desert island dvd is that if you could only bring 10 dvds that represent all that is great in the human condition than this movie shows us that men can reach the moon and brazil.

Probably Terry Gilliam's best work. This is not a movie that you can watch half-heartedly.
Not only is it a dark comedy, its just dark. If I was trying to describe what "surreal" meant, I'd say watch Brazil.

Easily the best out of his tragic dreamer trilogy....then again, almost every film he's made is about that, anyhow. Ironic and hilarious.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 10, 1999

Brazil is a brilliant and deeply puzzling film which can only be called dark and 'light' all at the same time. It depicts a world gone haywire and reality controlled by...someone...?

This movie is even better than 1984 when it comes to giving a vision of bureaucratic, oppresive future society. It's incredibly imaginitive, and witty/amusing in places where you don't expect it. The ending is great, too- when you think you've hit the climax of the movie, you're wrong. I heartily recommend it.
